The other day there was a thread about true friends and what they are etc...
I was just wandering, has anyone lost a true friend, or group of friends due to their career?
I kind of lost what i thought was a true friend last night simply because ive joined the police.
Ive known the girl for about 5years and she is also my ex, but we are very close - last night she turned round and said she wont be able to trust me etc and i wont be the same... Im only 18 and it has made me think that im going in the job to young although its what ive wanted to do since i was 7, and it was a horrible feeling thinking like that.
So, has anyone had any similar experiences like this? I also come to the wonderful world of saxp for advice... any going?

i think she means because she is always going to partys and occasionally does drugs etc, but at the end of the day i dont think she should change her view of me because of my job

she will come around mate and see that you have a good job and are making something of yourself.
i went to college in Leeds and met some well dodgy people. 2 years on and i met up with some of them and most of them (apart from the ones that aren't in prison) all have good jobs such as Police men, Fire men and Counciler (sp). a job shouldn't change the person you are and some people dont see this.
good look with the new job

100% true mate... ive got some great mates from my old job, and some people i saw as mates from that stopped talking to me when i left, but i didnt see it as much as a loss.
This just got to me as its a good friend of mine

I wouldn't call it a career change that has lost me mates, but to be 100% honest, the only people I now ever see are from Sax-p lol, and that was definately not the case this time last year :P

she cant be a true friend if she found it so easy to turn her back on you just because of your chosen profession, noone has the rite to make you think twicw bout a career you have always wanted! id love to be in the police, always wanted too

i would say lost touch more than lost actual friends! as i dident go to collage like the rest i got a job,and only go to collage once a week and its a diffrent collage to most of the others! ,so i hardly if ever see them now
and tbh mate if shes done that just becuase you gonna be a copper.. then was she realy a true mate

im just pissed off that we have been proper mates for ages then just came out with that
i think it was quite alcohol fueled but thats not a real reason.
my gf thinks she has changed because she is still not properly over me or something stupid like that

I spoke to her today, and her ex who she split up with under bad circumstances wants to join the police and he txt her saying that he is gna get her nicked every time she steps out of line and was worried im gonna do that
