For christmas i got myself signed up to my local gym to try and bulk myself up and improve my fitness generally.
have been going down 3 times a week since i started, and one thing i find is that when im lifting weights, my hands get quite saw from the metal grips on the weights.
there are a lot of people down there that wear weight lifting gloves and wondered where they had got them from. would any sports shop sell them or would i have to go somewhere specific to get them?

cheers mate, what are the advanategs and disadvantages of them??
its not for every machine i use, only for certain ones - such as the bench press, i find my hands hurt more from that than other machines i use

i got mine from JJB and only use them when i am lifting using metal bars or heavy weights. i got them becasue my hands were been torn to shreads by the grips on the bars.
its personal choice to weather people use them or not. i chose to wear them as i didn't want to be using E45 on my hands and feeling gay, lol:homme:

if i were you id get some york wrist grip gloves, i got a pair from streetwise and they are really good, they dont get your hands to sweaty, and they obviously have the wrist grip support on aswell, since starting to use them they have only done good for me, whereas when doing some freeweights you can get wrist strain quite easily i dont find this a problem any more

if you want to see some size in your forearms, your advised not to use anything to give you a better grip.. gloves, straps etc..
the skin that tears off on your hand grows back solid anyway, just like the heels on your feet, you get used to it.
up to you though.. if your only starting out i wouldnt worry about it, buy the gloves if it makes you more comfortable and gets your technique right.

as above you will be loosing strength in your wrists if you were them and its good to grip naturally. you will get used to not wearing them

Tried them dont like them, been training for about 4 years now. NEver really got on with them. Like above your hnds get used to it and toughen up.
I have bought 2 different types, both times I left them alone coz they were just a inconvienance to me.

My mate got a pair from sportsworld for a few quid. But as said if you can live without them it will toughen your hands up and help wrist development. when i first started i used to get sort of blisters/dry skin on hands but that went in no time. your hands will soon adabpt. infact a bit of pain in your hands will probley help you push more as its agrivating you as you lift.

i dont get on with gloves, i just use good old chalk powder for grip, you skin will adapt after a few months and harden up on the surface
