yeah think its a t2, but just wondering if his is a hybrid one or it was used off a production car, like an FRST or R5GTT or something.
Simo

Its a hybrid unit, but based around the Nissan sylvia 1.8.

im looking for a turbo thats as small as possible (physically) but the power will kick in at about 2000rpm and only want to run about 7psi of boost.
im thinking bout trying to use a production car turbo such as uno/punto turbo?

personally i dont think you would want to toutch a uno turbo with a barge pole mate . . . .
i have heard the renault 5 gtt is nice setup to start with it you want something pretty basic but does the job but alos does the business
luckily for me i happen to noh a few peeps and i can get a turbo conversion for my 1.1 for around £600 smileys/smiley2.gif
but then again im only 17 well baerly my b-day is may the 17th . . . . smileys/smiley12.gif
out of my hard earned cash i bought myself a mint saxo but with 3 stud hubs smileys/smiley19.gif
im now finishing off my install so any ideas and a point in the right direction is welcome to me . . . . are 6 x 9's even nessecary ? btw

''turbo conversion for my 1.1 for around £600''
thats pretty strange considering the management just for an injector costs 200+ vat alone.

Was surpsrised to see Cituning were using a static pressure switch to control the extra injector smileys/smiley5.gif

i saw an MF2 hidden away behind their piping near the throttle body.
andy's conversion simply has an adaptor/sandwich plate from standard manifold, to turbo. then theres just a problem of making a custom downpipe section.
need to get hold of a small turbo.. any suggestions of where i can get a decent condition/working one?
is it best to buy a brand new hybrid one?? (not sure what hybrid bits to get though)

are there any differences between diesel and petrol engine turbo's ???
Scott
20th April 2004, 17:41
as far as im aware they tend to run lower boost which can be sorted, apart from that im not aware of any differences.

how about the turbo of a daihatu charade gTTi
they are a 3 cil. 990 cc engine with turbo, and they are around 110 bhp smileys/smiley2.gif so that has to be the smallest turbo i know

smallest one i know of guy is a T1.5, not sure when it`d kick in but being that small i reckon very early but would fall away very early aswell. 5 gtt`s had a T3 as standard hence why they are so slow standard. punto gt is a T25. the T3 kicks in at around 3200rpm and will take you all the way to the red, T25(dpmotorsport hybrid-based on a saab) around 2500 and falls away about 5500-6000rpm. think the T2 kicks in at 2000rpm all though i`m sure simo will confirm that one.
what`s brought this turbo lark on then?

simon - i wanna be like you and have a sexy dump valve ;)
well ive got a dump valve in my garage but it dont work without a turbo smileys/smiley17.gif
not 'too' worried about top end as the nitrous is there at higher revs isnt it..
that t25 sounds quite appropriate..
any closeup pics of your conversion simon? i never looke dat it closely before.. is yours done with whole new manifold? i noticed andys was done with standard manifold and a adaptor/sandwich plate.

Guy

im liking the look of andy's as its just an adaptor plate. and looking at simos older pics his was standard manifold with plate welded on to fit turbo.
only tricky bit will be getting downpipe made up..
but im not sure whether i can be arsed now to be honest..
might just get a progressive controller and run more nitrous through.
Scott

nah get the turbo guy.
down pipe wouldnt really be that big a problem that i can see, either mod the origional to fit by ways of welding another plate on to it and heat and bend to shape.
Or get one made up. Cant be that expensive for a downpipe to be made, though probably best to avoid pooerflow and shit like thatsmileys/smiley17.gif

VTR is easy to sort the manifold.. as you say you can get away with using a sandwich plate.
Downpipe shouldnt be a problem with your engineering contacts guy??
I'll help ya Scott smileys/smiley17.gif
Guy
23rd April 2004, 01:03
simo - it shouldn't be a problem at all really
also the bloke at work (who im building a website for) actually made his own front mount intercooler for his audi turbo engined rebuilt mk1 golf (costed about 130 quid for the core then just a sheet of ally to make the ends to cap it up. smileys/smiley16.gif
got any contacts with a decent condition T25 turbo?
need to find somewhere..
if not reckon its best to do like andy's ?? think his hybrids made up of saab exhaust part and 200sx or silvia compressor part, or something.
