just an idea but can you not make it so that the thread starter can close the thread when they have an answer that they want or something, it will stop spamming etc and people bringing back threads that are off years ago

unlike the idea of deleting posts, everything will be recorded, just peole wont be able to add further information, that is not needed to the thread

???

It is a good idea but you'd have to therefore give that member moderating access within that section which would also mean they could move, delete posts which as Paul said is giving members too much control.

If you want a thread closed asap, PM a moderator with the link :)

Its possible to allow members to close their own threads without having moderator priveleges... but im not convinced this would be a benefit.

Often its useful to keep adding information to a thread.

ie, if someone asks about a certain topic, then receives answers.. then someone else searches for the same topic... finds the old thread, then asks information in the same thread... all of the info is kept together. Instead of having dozens of very similar threads.
