View Full Version : Locking and unlocking itself

Car for some unknown reason has suddenly started to lock and unlock itself. Started this morning when i came out to the car but from what i remembered it locked ok last night.

I would normally associate this with poorly fitted door cards. I havent touched anything on the car for weeks.

I quickly took off the door cards and boot panel. All locks appear to be operating correctly or at least they all move then within half a second go back to the unlock position. THe alarm still arms itself so that if a door is opened it goes off.

I have even tried locking with the car running like i would normally if was in the car going through somewhere dodgy with the key fob, same thing happens locks and unlocks.

Its a vts so standard alarm, interior sensors are always disarmed as they dont work and the car has no door locks or door pins.

ANy ideas?

usually behaves like that when it *thinks* a solenoid hasnt deployed properly... if they are deploying then there could be a sensor at fault. but not sure on the sensors associated with mechanism though... my suggestion would be look around the solenoids see what other wires (if any) are loose.

crap suggestion but similar thing happened to the c3.

Try the wire blocks inside the door. This happened to my gfs.

all solenoids appear to be firing well and true.

I will double check the wiring plugs on the locks themselves and the way into and out of the doors.

Might just burn it.

Like i said same thing happened when somebody did the lock in on the gfs car. They pushed the wiring block out which was making it not in a circuit. If you get me.(Sorry tired.lol)

Scott
18th January 2007, 11:01
rod was cut as i couldnt be bummed with fiddling about and i had the angle grinder out anyway.

I check last night, the rods dotn appear to be foulign or catching, they were jumping up and down fine

1 might of caught got and put 1 of the mechanisms out of sink with the other 1 causing the problem

Try pulling up the rods individually and see if that shows any change?

Scott

i will double check the rods and even get some synchronised pulling of them going. Will probably remove them properly to if that solves it

Yeah whip them out and all will magically be restored for some unknown reason.

Scott
18th January 2007, 16:00
oh the rage that is building in me.

Been outside in teh snow in my suit etc..

Removed both door cards, removed the remaining door pin rods completely. Unplugged both door locking mechs for 10 mins. Still locking then unlocking itself. Rage

Any other suggestions

all plugs and associated wiring appears to be fine on inspection when i was out there. Solenoids are firing well. The only thing i did notice was that i could easily lock the passenger side door by pushing the plunger, the drivers side would not do this??

you checked under the bonnet at all?

My dad had a problem in the galaxy, where the doors did that, the windows also opened and closed along with the sun roof, the radio went on and off, and lights turned themselves on and off constantly.

He drove it to Ford (crazy bastard) and turned out the electrics had been flooded.

this happend to mine!

i thought it was the alarm because it auto locks/unlocks the doors when i turn on/off the engine.

but it wasnt it was the central locking.

on one side something had gone causing it to do this, carnt remember what though sorry :( it was like when i opened it, that it didnt "click" so to speak like the other side.

i got it fixed under warranty though so didnt go anywhere.

Scott

Nothing else electrical appears to be affected and the central locking stuff is in the car behind the dash so "should" be ok on that front.

The alarm is working fine, i know its something with the central locking but can i help identify it:P

Even weirder tonight when driving over to the missus i thought i would try the fob and the car locked fine, and unlocked fine, several time i tried it and all was well. THen parked up and straight back to locking and immediately unlocking!

Next on the list is to spray the plugs going into the lock mechs with wd40 or other water dispersal and see if they are maybe damp and that might sort it.

All other suggestions welcome

Scott

lets hope this works im getting a bit pissed off now

dont think that will solve it mate tbh.

mine sometimes worked all of a sudden aswell so looks like exactly same problem. first time it started workin was when i took it to get fixed! lol but then when i got home it started doing it again!

to get in and out of my car i had to catch it half way between unlocking/locking is that what your doing? at first i could do it on both sides but then i could only catch it on the passanger side door so i had to climb over everytime. the thing i had replaced was on the driver side door, i never thought i was rite as when i opened it when it was working it never had a click to it like the passanger side door.

something in the circut that makes it do it, i remember him saying that best going to a garage im afraid unless you know your stuff about central locking problems :<

JK.

Scott
20th January 2007, 14:32
i know my stuff are teh saxo no problem but i have doen jsut about everything i can do to it now without starting to randomly replace parts.

As soon as i lock the car it unlocks itself. Alarm still arms. ALl solenoids firing, none sticking and none catching on anything.

jk47
20th January 2007, 14:44
oO so yours wont lock mine was other way around, least you can get in it unlike me ><

No change does exactly the same thing. Stumped at the moment might just burn it or send it to the garage

jk47
20th January 2007, 16:08
