remote locking/alarm

hello, ive got a S reg VTR, at the minute its off the road due to a fight with a van.
but anyway, i got the car last summer, and since the day i got it the remote locking/alarm have been a bit hit and miss. sometimes it wont work at all, others it works fine, and most of the time it locks fine, but wont unlock, so when i open unlock it manualy the alarm goes off and i cant switch it off.
any idea what it could be??

sounds like the fight with the van may have damaged the electrics or wiring. do you need to be in a certain place for the remote to always work? get an electrician to test the circuit if possible. even change batteries in the key fob

yeah i need to be inside the bloody car for it to work most of the time, but sometimes it works outside as well from certain angels. it did work perfectly for a week, then stopped again.
and it was like this before the van thing.
