Bought a phone on saturday, got the Samsung D900 on the £35 a month contract.
Today i come and sit down on the sofa with the phone in my pocket, get my phone out 2 mins later to reply to a text and my screen is completely fooked! All black with crack line down it (without actually being a physical crack)

So i call the O2 phone shop and they tell me "yer no worries we'll just swap it over":y:
So off i went, got there and have been told they cant and wont do anything with it....im apparantly going to just have to use another phone for the rest of my 18month contract! :argue: So for 6 days use of the 18months i cant exchange my phone.

So now im left with a broken phone and a number to call to pay £85 to get the screen fixed!! :n:

Any one know if i can do something about this or am i completely fucked because i didnt pay another £10 a month for insurance ontop of the £35 i already pay???

ring O2 directly, they can normally help better and just tell them what happened and stuff!

and so you have a 14 day cancelation period?

My D900 did exactly the same thing, but it happened about 25 days later, i took it back to the The Link and they swapped it over there and then, saying if i waited 1 more day they couldnt do it and would of had to sent it away to get it fixed and my insurance pays.

do they log your phone calls to them?

get it insured and claim off it a month later maybe

Sounds a bit harsh with them not wanting to exchange it.

i used to work for The Link for 3 years so i know a little bit about it ! ....

Not what you wana hear but Because its "accidental damage" it want be covered under the warranty on the phone, no matter how many people you know thats had the same problem.

Because its not a warranty fault o2 are fully within their right to refuse to change it.

Dont go into the shop looking for a fight because the staff will close down and wont help you.

Possible solutions to sort something out.

1 - (have you called 02 customer service and told them about it, or has any one spoken 2 02 customer service? ) if no one has ... call 02 up and tell them you were just looking at your contract and youve noticed that the insurance that you wanted isnt added to the contract. 9 times out of 10 they will say sorry and add it on there and then ( have a bit banter with the person on the phone, tell them how clumsy you normally are, blah blah) .... leave it 2 months then call up and tell them your phones broken. Total cost - £10per month you wait, plus what ever the excess is on the insurance, probs 25 quid.

2- if the 1st dosent work, go into phones 4 u and ask them about buying your way out of your contract. Phones 4 u have a buy out deal were if you buy a phone from them they may be able to buy you out your old contract. they might not offer you a d900, but they will sort you with something. If the guy at phones 4 you offers you insurance, ask if it is a direct debit, if it is .. .take it then cancel the direct debit. Be honest with the guy and he will be happy enough to tell you the crack. Becasue he is paid commission on the number of people he signs up he will try n do a deal.

3 - if you have to cancel the contract you will have to pay for it. so thats £35 a month for a minimum of 6 or 9 months then you can drop the tariff down to a £10 plan and pay the rest off ... not cheap but the cheapest way to cancel.

4 - if these dont work go into 02 n ask if they know any one that does un official repairs. Most stores will no sumone that will do it slightly cheaper than if you just walked in off the street. Mention 02's name and you might get a discount.

i hope that helps mate .... good luck

they will be trying to charge u as it sounds like u damaged it,

which u did i work for an insurance if you didnt have the crack u could have done a 28day replacement,, or got 6month free warranty from the manufacturer, but as theres a crack uv damaged it so ur knackered and u cant swap a damaged phone over

manufactor warrinty covers it, they send the phone off attempt to fix if they cant they give you a new one. you will probaly be without a phone for a week though, go into the o2 shop and ask.

take some insurance out on it privatley like with a phone insurance company that isnt o2, then after a week or two tell them its broke, and you get a free fone out of it :)

Luckily we have a little thing in the uk called the sale of goods act. To cut a long story short a product has to be fit for the purpose it was sold for and for a reasonable time. Either go to shop or ring O2 and say as you are no help you are returning it under the sale of goods act and watch them buckle. Have done this many times. Do a quick search on google and you find the law in really in your favour on this. :)

dont shoot me i work for o2 but i ca tell you that they are right becasue you see unless you have insurance but if not then it comes under the pones warranty with samsung and screen damage isnt covered by the warranty im sorry i know it sucks but there is nothing you can do by all means try and phone customer services but i severly doubt anything will be done because its not in the warranty so samsung wont fix it
