An email I sent them a year ago when I started my policy;

Hi,

I'm currently insured with Quinn-Direct on a 2000 Saxo Mark. 2 Furio 1.4i 8v, and my insurance is Third Party Fire & Theft. (TPF&T) I have a few questions to ask and it would be appreciated if they could be answered.

I bought the car at the beginning of February, and it came with an aftermarket back box, induction kit, ECU Valve and it had been lowered 40mm, all by the previous owner. Since then I've replaced the CD player, all the original speakers, I've added a subwoofer and amplifier in the boot and I've replaced the wheels with some 15" Lenso RS5's, also I've recently added a Viper 5000 Pager2Pager Alarm System.

Now my questions are;

* As I'm TPF&T do I need to declare modifications on my car?

* How much will I be looking to pay extra for the specific modifications?

* Will the fact that I've added an alarm cheapen my insurance?

Thank you for your time, and I will be looking forward to hearing from you.

Dear Mr Brownley

Thank you for your e-mail dated: 02/05/06

I would like to confirm that as long as the vehicle has had an MOT done
since the changes were made, than the modifications are fine. Having an
alarm on the vehicle will not make a difference to your premium.

If there are any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards
Zoe

There you go fella. :y:

just to say that the modifications have been done by a professional and the car is fit to pass an MOT

Well they WERE done by me :A: so if i get my work to write a letter saying they did the work and it was checked by an mot tester *cough with the cat on cough* and all is ok, then quinn will say, "ok bud no extra cost" ????????:y:

does this report have to be done by a specailist or any MOT registered tester?

ok, ive just rang them and i now have the form.. on my pc, its a really basic form but has to be stamped by a certain place IE a main dealer..

im gonna do some research on the criteria of what there asking for as they want it stamped by one of the following people

1. main dealer
2. member of the institute of automotive engineer assessors
3. SIMI approved garage
4. DOE test centre

anyone know about these places?

How would insurance co. discover car was lowered if you hadn't declared it if it was only lowered, say 35mm? would they inspect it if you crashed? If only TPFT would they need to inspect anyway? Just wondered?

its obvious to anybody that knows about cars that its been lowered, plus they can just see the springs are red or yellow (dependin on make), if u lower ur car then deffo declare it, as u cnt change it quickly before they know..

I rang them 9 months ago and told them i have a non-standard exhaust. They wanted an engineers report. I could not be arsed with that and went to admiral and got a cheaper quote anyway.
