Sounds like a typical insurance small print!

Are you sure its the £350 + the £400, It's just it happened to my other half, and even though he was 25, because he was 24 when the policy started he had to pay the young drivers excess. It ended up being £400 instead of £250 but not together.

Who you insured with??

young person excess goes on top of the standard excess buddy so it could be right or more

I didn't know that... *confused*

In your poilcy, your excess's are stated. I just thought they give you a ball park figure.

yeah that sounds about right... I had an excess of about £500 on top of standard excess when I was bombing around in the C3.

I thought they did it as per your age group.

17-20
21-24
25+

etc...

Might have a look at mine tonight now. Haha!

Well when i phoned quinn about my crash, they said - "Your excess will be £135" Thats it!

aye its right.
my standard excess is £250. for 25+

extra 21-24 = £150
17-20 = £300.

so when i had a crash i paid £550 excess. luckily i bought the car for a good price £1800 and they paid me £2550 because the car was a minter and had full history and immaculate. it was a w-reg vtr in posi blue with 85k. this was in feb 06.

dont accept the 1st offer they make u.

im afraid that the extra £400 is because ur a young driver and it is a compulsary excess whereas the £350 excess is a voluntary excess from you the voluntary excess you can sometimes choose the amount of, its alot of money though, if u need any more help pm me!

yea from what you people have said im more convinced its right, they just never mentioned it, unless its on one of the documents somewhere im gonna dig them out and have alook. the longer this goes on the more it turns out im getting less and less.

while im at it, my insurance companys took about a month now and i still havent actully recived the offer for my car, how long does it usually take for everything to go through, or do they drag there feet and take months?

beastgtir- they have offerd 1800, on parkers the guide is like 1768 or somthing so thought thts pretty good, my car had mods on it, smooth boot and grill and angel eyes. they never noticed these though so is all good if i turn down this offer they will definitly make me another offer? or will they check the car over again see if its worth more etc? cheers

well do remember you can claim your road tax back aswell.

they usually just have a quick browse then send you an offer. you should make notes of stuff like service history and if its low mileage.

dont mention mods unless u declared them at the start of the policy cus they might VOID your insurance.

you can keep track of cuttings or print outs off cars on the forum/autotrader showing similiar cars for sale and the price. if they are advertised at like £2000 etc. send the copys to the insurance company.

they will make a second offer and it might be higher by how much, i cant say. i was just happy with the first offer they made me.

1800 i feel is a good offer but if i could get better i wouldnt mind lol, it was a 99 t reg vtr with 77 on the clock, mods werent declared LOL, was just about to change to another insurance company so i could as mine wouldnt insure you if you had any mods at all. just annouying haveing pay 750 for nothing when i thought id ave pay 350 :(

yes this is correct, with every claim u have to pay 2 excesses, a compulsy and volentary (sp), young drivers have a huge compulsy excess but this drops when u get older, this is another way they make money from people.

always read the small print!
