ello everyone,

jus a quick one. am about to take insurance with quinn in a couple of weeks when i turn 18.

i have got a vtr mk1 with air filter and lexus lights (i know wht you're all thinking, they were on their when i bought the car)

are quinn direct okay with these mods when i take my policy out cuz everyone on here seems to be saying you need to get certain forms stamped etc.

can anyone clear this up for me?

cheers, elliot

Why not give them a call and ask the question? Say something like... I'm "thinking" about modifying my car by putting on an air filter and lexus lights, how much extra (if any) would it be on top of my policy?" If they say they wont insure you, then look at taking a policy out with somebody else.

Btw, tell them that the air filter would not increase performance as it's a filter and not an induction kit and the lexus lights are purely cosmetic.

Purely cosmetic mods should be ok with quinn. As for the air filter they might be a bit funny about that. Ring them several times on different days because quinns tell you something different everytime you phone. Just say its a non standard air filter but doesnt add performance. As long as you dont want them too add value to the car then it wont affect your premium. And they should ask you that.

You shouldnt need anything stamped, maybe just part numbers or description.
P.S. They hate saxos.

to an insurance company they are! any modification to a car meens more expeicnve parts so you may want to claim for the price of the mod too....
plus, if u mod ur car its usualy for a reason, performance or style... he was lucky to get away with not paying alot more (depending on the age)

i forgot to say about all the other stuff like a 60mm drop, tints and smoked lights alround.

they are only supposed to put the premium up for performance mods anyway

ive just taken out a policy, will neglect to mention modifications atm and then "think about mods" in amonth or so, someone on here said u are better getting the policy first of, then introdusing the complications!

Kinda like getting a mistress then telling her ur married

i have my policy with quinn direct and they will insure you with any cosmetic mod you just add the cost to the value of the car, and performance mods need an engineers report thats it, and my policy hardly went up when i declared my 17's, tints straight thru exhaust, airfilter, lowering etc

this engineers report things is gettn on me tits, is it just a form they send u to be stamped by an mot tester or just a declaration from a mechanic saying all is well?

has to be approved by some gay engineer thing or a main dealer, but i think they normally accept an MOTer,

i didnt need to for my lowering 40mm

All insurance companies are different. You should declare Everything and i mean everything. A modification is changing something from its original form. Adding lexus lights (Please Dont) is a Modification and so is a different Air filter. The only way to find out the difference in prices is to ring them.

As DevilDamo said, tell em you are 'Thinking' about adding them and see what they say. Although cosmetic mods will not affect performance, insurance companies do not look at it like that.

Say you added bucket seats, different lights, and a different bodykit. These are all cosmetic mods but they make the car look more attractive to theives. Most car thieves are not stupid and know if you have spent loads on cosmetic mods then most likely you have spent loads under the bonnet. Insurance companies know this and anything that makes your car look more attractive to theives will probably increase your premium.

You have to think about this logically. If there is a higher chance your car will be stolen or broken into then that is a higher risk for insurance companies, therefore the only option is to charge you more to cover the extra risk to them.
