You can't declare a decat pipe as it's illegal. After 1994 I think your car needs to have a cat by law. You need to declare your exhaust.

On my insurance it only says exhaust anyway. It doesn't say backbox etc

De-cat pipe is illegal, so don't declare that.

Declare the exhaust and you'll be fine.

well thats why i asked dude, my new insurance has sent me a form i have to fill in stating the modifications done to the car, my exhaust is standard apart from the backbox at the moment, but i do have a de-cat pipe i need to put back on after the MOT i just had.

just dont want insurance to void it if i do have it on, but equally dont want to declare it and get in any bother that way, if you know what i mean...

edit:

De-cat pipe is illegal, so don't declare that.

Declare the exhaust and you'll be fine.

but will it void if i claim, thats what i want to know?

I'm not sure mate, I don't think they would look for the cat to be honest. A presume your cat is underneath? If so, I reckon you'll be cool.

It I was you, I'd stick the de-cat pipe on, like I said they ain't going to check underneath - aslong as the exhaust is declared on insurance then you'll be fine.
