I drive 70 Miles Round Trip to Work, 5 Days a Week. I reckon im going to do around 20K Miles a Year. My policy says 10K per year cause that is what i was doin in the previous car and when i got a new one i didnt think to change it.

My question is, can insurance companies tell how many miles you are doing?. The only way i think this is possible is if they have access to the MOT database becuase your mileage would be input when you get your MOT certificate so they could compare how many it had done then to how many your clock has done now. Is that Possible??

You should be ok mate, I told my old insurer that I did 2,000 - 3,000 miles a year, which infact I ended up doing 13,000 in one year. With my current insurance, I told them I'd do 6,000 mile a year and I have currently done 10,000 (It expires in May).

Face it, you can NEVER guess how much mileage you will do - especially if your a young driver and don't realise how much you actually use your car.

if something happens though they can look at how much your mileage has gone up in a year using your mots to check how much mileage you really are doing

People tend to over-estimate their mileage and so get bummed on cost. I always under estimate but not by daft amounts.

they can check if u show them ur old MOT certificate, if they are being that fussy, but if uve lost it then they wont know ;)
