Just wondering what is creatine for and what does it do, sum people say it helps bulid muscle and when is the best time to take it?

?? creatine doesn't make you stronger, that would be a placebo. it just increases water tension making you "look" bigger

A placebo by definition would do nothing, creatine is proven to show increased strength while providing great size gains.
Sports scientists reviewed the creatine research and concluded the following about the effectiveness of creatine monohydrate:
* Promotes greater gains in increasing FFM (Fat Free Mass, which includes muscle mass).
* Increases muscle fiber size; hypertrophy.
* Increases muscle mass.
* Increases myosin.
* Improves maximal strength.
* Improves maximal power.
* Improves single-effort sprint performance.
* Improves worked performed during repetitive sprint performance.
* Improving performance during exercise of high to maximal intensity.

He not suggesting it doesnt do anything... but because of the bulking up, the mind is tricked into think you're stronger.
Think World Strongest man and then think Mr Universe... the universers appear super strong... well defined (and a bit :homme:), whereas the world strongest mofos appear slightly chunkier.

Well I could be wrong about creatine, i'm just going by what i was told.. and in english it makes you appear bigger, basicly makes your muscles watery which appears bigger. All i know is when i went on it for a month or 2 i was just as strong if not stronger after coming of it, but that was just in my case.
Oh and yes like Ad said, it would make you think you are stronger (placebo) but that isn't a bad thing, alot of BB is in the mind anyway.

i got told me shoulders looked bigger by me mates, but didnt feel any stronger and as i said "soon as u come off it u drop off the weight" as its just water or whatever, fake anyways get ur self to a gym and be one of the dew who do real work outs nowa days

Leo, I've read a fair bit about creatine and from what I can gather increased water retention is a popular myth.

Cheers, will have a read. I'm getting some creatine on my next protein buy, going to give it another go.. i'm sure it helps but im positive it doesn't make you stronger. Only think I can say is you have to be carefull reading on sites like bodybuilding ones because you have to rememer they promote this sort of product so the last thing they would do is put it down.

well it worked when ive used it, i could train so much harder thus creating bigger muscles. water retention or not you still create more muscle tear. pschological, if i took it before the gym it did make me want to do more, winner either way

I have only just started taking creatine, about 2 weeks now. I am taken the stuff my uncle sells from his shop. I have seen huge increases in my strength.
Incline bench press has gone from 85kg on 4 sets of 8 right up to 105kg 4 sets of 8 fairly easily now.

It is not meant to make you stronger or make you feel stronger, it increases the number of creatine phosphate molecules (required for creating energy) so effectively you have more energy during training; this is why grantsmith is able to now lift more, his energy stores are being replenished quicker so he is not fatiguing as soon.
As you only use the Creatine phosphate energy system in short bursts during very intense training (>95% of your maximum) taking creatine wont be effective if you are doing light weights/cv etc as you will be using either the lactate or aerobic energy systems....this is why some people say creatine doesn't work...it does, they are just not using it to its full potential and under the right conditions. Hope that makes sense!
O and you do get water retention initially
