Thought I'd make my first topic in this section :P
My hard drive makes a terrible noise particularly when downloading porn which is normally late and night and wakes my parents up!!!
it's like a creaking, groaning noise. I heard you can put them in the freezer, does it actually work?
cheers

In the freezer!?
Iv been told this drive means your drive is considering moving onwards & upwards. One of mine made a horrible noise for a while too but it stopped after about 6 months, Still works today!

I think eventually what cured mine was a long format. Make sure everything is backed up & format the drive (make sure you dont do a 'quick format') the format should take an hour or more then put a clean partition on & put all your stuff back on & see if its any better. :y:

It could be nothing, just excessive swapping if you have a low amount of system memory. With that said lots of noise does usually indicate a drive about to fail. If you have everything backed up it might be a good idea to format it to see if it makes it through and basically start the drive from scratch. I've saved a few that way. If it is on it's last legs though, it may fail halfway through.

ok, it was formatted about a month ago though. Just done a recent backup so I think I'll just leave it and see how it gets on :)

freezer can help for some problems if the hard disk doesn't spin or is completely dead!!

You might need to replace the fan that cools the unit.
I had something simular on my work PC, so I called Desktop support... they came and replaced the fan and it's no longer noisey, plus it works faster now!

its on its way out bud the motor arm is the noise you hear clicking it does that to give you a warning kinda thing. first thing you will find your PC will start to take ages to load up and it will take ages to load up simple applications like WMP.
