How easy is it to do a oil change and a antifreeze change on a vtr? Aint got a lot of tools or stabilisers only the saxo wheel changing clamp, but could I use that then put bricks underneath the place where the clamp goes, is it easy to get to the oil sump anyone got any pics? Cheers andy

theres a bung on the bottom of the sump you remove to drain oil, only thing being if you havent got alot of tools could make the job harder, i.e removing the old filter as there a pain in the ass to get off sometimes..

its risky mate with no stands or anything i mean yeh you will be able to do it but what if it goes the bricks might go crushhhhhh then you will have to be rebuilt like robo cop :borg: :panic:

To be honest mate if you haven't got the right tools i wouldn't try doing it yourself as it will only end in tears!

Take it too a garage as it'll only take a couple of hours max for them to do it!

as long as you do it on level ground you should be ok as your not under for long

only think id be worried about is when trying to undo the plug as you may rock it off the jack

might be worth investing ina a troly jack and stand set you can get them for about £20ish

it easy to get to the plug iv forgotten what size it is you can use a adjustable or a square plug socket (which i doubt you have)

the filter will just screw off might need a bit of force for that

if you changing oil you might aswell change the filter

for the antifreze just unclip the bottom rad hose as its the lowest point so will get the most water out

then fill again with anti freeze and water

I had my oil and filter changed, coolant, sparkplugs, fuel filter and valve clearances done yesterday and it was all done in two hours!

dean vtr yea but how much for ?

only asking as from previous car i know changing oil is literally letting it out topping it up, and coolant is literaly draining it topping it up with water draining it, so cant see the point in wasting money on labour for that when i dont have it

cheers guys

I paid for the parts mate but the labour only cost me £44, so i would of thought that to change the oil and do the coolant won't take no longer than hour for a garage to do it mate, which would only cost me £22!

Why don't you ring around and ask how much it'll cost?

most garages round here do oil chages for £20(depending on vehicle)that includes parts

but will be the cheap of the cheapest oil

why dont you invest in tools as they will come in handy again

I'd either get a garage to do it mate or do what hessle says and invest in the right tools as they will come in handy time and time again!

But i wouldn't go using bricks or anything mate!

At the end of the day your safety is more important than anything!

How easy is it to do the anti freeze as i am wanting to mine. In the haynes manual it says about bleeding something or another. So just unclip the rubber hose at the bottom of the coolant tank and then just refil it.

yeah unclip the hose lowest to ground and most of the water will come out

then fill up

then you will need to bleed the coolant system it should say in the haynes how to do it if not have a search on here and you will find it

might be worth taking a water pipe going to the head to drain more water out to

i did a brake fluid change, oil and filter change, coolant change and fuel filter change last weekend, must say coolant is the worst one to do as you have to try and drain the coolant out from a few different hoses and make sure the system is fully bled out but was ok. I did all that in about 2 hours.
