Hey everyone just wondered if anyone has ever came across pinking from their timing meaning there timing needs advanced or retarded? keep getting a rattly sound at highish revs. Ive not got a strobe light to check the timing but got told to check the clearance gap in the spark plugs? any ideas anyone? thanks

i get pinking also, especially going uphill in a high gear. this might sound daft but have you booted it recently? sometimes the valves need a good cleaning out to get rid of the carbon hence why cars run smoother after long journeys.

what plugs are you running? tehy could be causing too much heat also.

mine jingles a touch when putting the pedal down in 5th at about 35 mph, and the car smells of petrol fumes all the time -

I havent checked the plugs yet, thats tomorrows job as im thinking of changing them because my service is due. I did give it a booting to see if it would help clear the pinking noise but it didnt lol. i hadnt thought about carbon buildup in the valves could be a possibility. Its a 2001 mk vtr ive got btw incase that helps anyone.
