I cant see a use for that function myself but cool.... can you show us some screen shots?

furiomike
11th February 2007, 22:25
yeah the aero interface looks pretty cool. the only problem is that its gonna rape yer games performance unless you got a very top end pc. even then its gonna take a hit. not the end of the world though.

MTR

Also full of bugs, unsupported hardware and huge performance issues, 'cept that it's cool! :)

From what iv seen of vistain the preview before Linux XGL hit beta & after the microsoft developers had seen XGL. I think its obvious where their 'inspiration' came from.
Although the XGL team produced theres in a fraction of the time microsoft did & XGL is so much more effecient in how it utilises your hardware that you can run it on the same spec machine as windows 98 :err:

vista is full of bugs and loads of crap, not secure at all and is the #1 target for hackers now.
hardware issues are all over the place and loads of performance issues

other than that it looks pretty, tho mac does and doesnt have microshit issues to come with it ;)

ill stick with xp for now, until vista is more useable.

Not after offending anyone.. But Vista is a piece of crap. Microsoft Operating systems have been getting worse and worse the more stuff and functions they're putting on there. After XP Becomes completely obsolete.. I'm going to just completely move to Linux rather than what i'm doing now, hopping on XP for when i need to use certain programs. For ease rather than any real need.

LOL I'm part of the m$ beta programme and deploy products for BT. I'd used Vista before you even knew it's code name. Now we are done defending ourselves ;) I will still maintain it's less than great right now, no company i know of has plans to 'upgrade' [read: sidestep] for at least 18 months, that should tell you enough. :n:

Oh, Added to that.. XP alone is a complete process and memory hog. From what i've heard of a mate who tested Vista out.. Vista is even worse.

Vista in time will be a nice OS. It's modular approach to implementation is being adopted in many different areas. It's just not ready for a full time OS IMHO.
'Stay on the bleeding edge and get cut' might be one way to describe it. ;)

Microsoft will need to pay alot more attention to Vista than they did with XP IMO

barely any companys upgrade windows, its because half the time there old systems wont work, no other reason, i still know mates that work for companys that are on 98, not beacause xp or vista is "crap" but they cant afford it amongst other reasons

It probably does look amazing and have some really good features but I couldnt
buy a new Operating System until Ive read endless reviews and know the ins
and outs if you know what I mean.

XP only just meets my needs, plenty of games that dont work on it I used to
play and there are little things that really really piss me off.

I can imagine Vista would just make things worse for myself and my needs.

Nothing beats simplicity, applies to car modding and IT :p Win 98 SE!!!

98se was good.

Read that review on vista, its frankly brilliant. I also look forward to the security review thats going to be written though i fear it may be like a phone book

While 98SE worked, think back to how many times it crashed and there was no way to restart explorer half the time! XP was worlds apart for stability. That's the main problem i think, after SP1 m$ got XP so right there isn't much need for users to upgrade right now. All that Vista offers is DX10 if you are into gaming, apart from that the looks can be achieved easily with XP or Linux.

And how many graphics cards yet support DirectX 10..... hardly any unless you spend stupid amounts of cash.

Still waiting to hear more on this topic including screen shots of the real vista......

Hence why i said if you're into gaming.:P Enthusiasts always have the latest and greatest. The 8800 GTS with 320MB has just been released meaning DX10 is becoming more affordable already! Just need some games now! :panic:

You can get tons of screenshots from any Vista review on the web. You must have seen most of it by now??!

There is only one problem with Vista.

Drivers.

That is all.

lyndon
24th November 2007, 12:05
Using Vista Ultimate 32bit atm, No problems, other than Teamspeak and Ventrillo don't work right due to drivers, as Ste said

EDIT : uploading some screenies for anyone who's interested

Yes it is shit, I work in a school and everytime one gets delivered with it on it gets reverted back to XP as we all hate it. It has no extra features to XP, it just rapes your memory and thats about it.

DarylVTR
24th November 2007, 12:31
i still run a dual boot with vista but it is pritty crap i hardly ever use it. Sure it looks much better but it runs so much slower than xp. All those annoying security messages do my head in, tried to deactivate them and they still come up. Eats your RAM and constantly reads your HDD making your computer very slow indeed. I have 3GB of DDR2 800 Corsair RAM and it uses atleast 1GB just to run idle.

lyndon
24th November 2007, 12:55
Lol mine uses hardly any, And I'm using ultimate, Must be something wrong with yours

lyndon
24th November 2007, 18:18
Ok fair point, Just opened task manager and its using 1.5gb idle...

but CPU usage is 2% or less. Bah

It's properly quick though, never have a minutes trouble really

gartrell
24th November 2007, 19:37
constantly reads your HDD making your computer very slow indeed

the noise pisses me off more than anything!

when it wants to, it runs fast and good! but for no apparent reason, it'l be slow as fook... cant see how people can rave on about it!?

24th November 2007, 20:07
Had no probs with Ultimate (Home was useless on mine) slapped in 2gig of "readyboost" to speed it up and all was ok. couldn't get used to the sidebar so took it off.
Got xp on other 3 computers and 98se on laptop, prefer Vista.

lyndon
24th November 2007, 20:17
Yeah I removed the sidebar too, It hogs resources and internet :)

DarylVTR
24th November 2007, 20:43
So essentually all your doing is disabling vistas features to make it the same as Windows XP lol
