i have a 2002 vts and have a nasty squeling noise coming from the alternator tensioner (i think) when the engine is cold- but when engine is warm will only squel when i turn the steering or turn on the lights (it seems to be anything that i do which seems to drain the power). i have replaced the belt however it is still making a noise.i have taken it to a garage and he took off the tensioner and oiled it and it was fine-however it has now returned!. has anybody had this problem? also does anybody know where i can get a tensioner from (citroen has quoted me £90 for the part)

I'm getting a sqeeling noise from somewhere around the alternator belt. I know it's not the tensioner pulley because I've changed it. Is failure of the crank pulley (mentioned above) commoon on the VTS and what exactly happens to it? Surely it is just bolted to the end of the crank and has not bearings or anything in it to squeek does it?

I have replace my crank pulley as I had the problem but worse as mine was grinding and juddering. If you look at the crank pulley you have the inner circle where the three bolts are, the damper which is the rubber part and then you have the outer part. All of that is ONE piece, however my damper had perished and therefore the outer piece where the belt goes around was slipping from the damper. When the engine is all heated up, the rubber damper expands and therefore the noise stops. It is only a Citroen part and cost £120.00. Any problems write back

My VTS is a Mk1, is it true that the Mk1 doesn't have this type of crank pulley but just has a solid metal one? I read something along these lines in another thread.

vts123-im not sure m8 ul have to take it 2 a garage and get it looked at! mine started off squelling and then it started to make a knocking noise! it was a good job i got it looked at coz it was getting worse and could have done some serious damage....!

Mine is a mk1 mate and yes it is metal but the damper can brake. I will try and find my old one and demonstrate for you with some pics tomorrow!

This is my broken crank pulley. You have the outer and inner piece and then there is a damper in the middle. That had broken and cracked and therefore the outer piece was slipping off the middle piece where it should all turn as one piece. This happened when it was cold and you put the electrics on as there was more pressure on the pulley. When it had warmed up the damper expanded and the noise stopped! I would say your alternator change first as mine made a grinding crunching noise although there was a high pitched squeal. The rust is due to it being in my garden lol!!!
