is it easy to mesh the front grill on a mk 1 saxo vtr? i took the grille off and found that on the back there are screws holding the plastic mesh on, is it as simple as take the plastic mesh off and replace it with metal?? cheers

i got a mk2 and been thinking bout doing it for ages, always thought it was just a case of taking the old grille off, cutting some mesh to the desired shape and then attatching but not sure?

int haynes max power saxo book, it ses:
1)unscrew and unclip the grille from the bonnet
2)cut off the melted retaining lugs from the back part of the grille and seperate the two parts
3)cut out the area of the grille you dont want taking care not to cut off the screw holes
4) measure and cut the amount of mesh, shape it to the back of the front part of the grille, and glue the mesh down, making sure the glue doesnt spill over the sides of the grille
5)Refit the grille and cut a hole so you can release the bonnet catch!
Hope this helps guys

on the mk2 you leave a little bit unmeshed just enough to let you release the catch

Mk1 saxos cudn b easier!!!! Take the grill off and as u sed take the plastic mesh off, cut back the clips n that so as nuffin is in the way n the mesh will fit nice n snugly. Cut out metal mesh remembering to overlap so as to stick dwn. I used sum stuff called sikaflex to stick mine dwn with n it aint cum off yet!! Hope this helps m8. smileys/smiley4.gif

mk1's are very easy.
on the mk2's, you dont NEED to cut a hole in the mesh to release the bonnet catch. what i did was put a rather long nut and bolt through the plastic bonnet catch. when you drill this through the catch, test it by closing the bonnet slowly and making sure the bottom of the bolt does not catch on the bumper.
what you then do is that from inside, you release the bonnet by pulling the lever. then go to the bonnet and slide your fingers under the bonnet and feel for the bolt which should be just long enough so that you can push it up. if you bolted it through correctly, then you should be able to push the bolt up (pushes the catch up) enough to release the bonnet.
may sound a bit harder but trust me, looks a lot nicer than cutting a hole in your mesh. ill try and find a pic of my old car with the HOLELESS mesh.
