time has come to change the pads but i want to make sure i know what i'm doing before i start taking bits of the brakes apart. Am i right in the following. . .
To change pads at the front, take off the clip on the front of the caliper. undo the bolts at the back of the caliper then lift the caliper up, old pads out, new pads in?
its a vtr BTW, any help would be muchly appreciated(Y)

yup, prise out the anti rattle spring on the outside of the caliper, leave the other side in place while you do one side incase you forget how it goes back in placesmileys/smiley17.gif
look behind the caliper and prise the caps off of the caliper guide pins, un them both and lift the caliper body clear. take out the inner pad from the caliper and then either have something to have the caliper sit on or tie it up so it doesnt feck the flexi hose. remove the outer caliper. Next you will need to push the piston back in, remove the cap off the fluid resevoir and push teh piston back in, i used a bit of wood to push it back in. Put some copper grease on the back of the pads and put the new inner pad into the piston and the outer pad into place. Put the caliper body back in place and put a little copper grease on the guide pins and redo them up tight and put the anti rattle spring back in place. do the other side then get wheels back on and pump the brake pedal to get the new pads touching the discs. done.smileys/smiley17.gif
