As of Saturday I started to give up smoking.
Out of the 3 days I would have smoked 10 Saturday, 10 Sunday and probably 5 by now. In this time I've had a toke of my GFs ciggy (She made me ;)) and had to steal a fag from my rents this morning as it was killing me.
So far, so good, that's 1/25 cigs.

i tried and failed.
Going out on the piss is where i find it hard. I can do all day without one but as soon as i touch a beer at home or wherever i really crave for one.

lol yeh, cutting down is one thing but you gotta just stop. Otherwise your giving in to the cravings still ;)
Good effort though & a smart move ti make. Come live in scotland we'v had a smoking ban for a year now. Smoking outside the pub in the rain will make u quit in no time :P

Dude, if I quit and was on patches, would you say I hadn't quit then? I would still be getting a nicotine intake, just like having a cig.

Quite simple really, quit smoking = never smoke again. patches and all that nonense are nothing to do with it, they just help the weak minded, help, or maybe tricks a better word.

Keep at it bud.
Think about it in the long term; not having a fag when you get a really bad craving is not gonna kill you... smoking for a few more years just might :P
It will be bloody tough, but it will be worth it - good luck! Give us a progress report in a few weeks!!

Tad unfair, its not being weak minded and its actually been proven that some people get much more addicted than others. Some people get addicted from one fag, some smoke all the time but arent badly addicted as they could just stop, they do it because they want to not because theyre addicted chemically. If your chemically addicted its much harder. Although some people dont make the effort, it is different

cant beliveeee i used to smoke (years back tho) - i know what you mean its absoloutly disgusting. if im sober i cant be around people smoking i get a bit pissed off to be honest its sick, makes me feel like frowing up.
its a shame cause you can wear some nice clothes to a pub just for like 1 pint, then ur clothes STINK of faggys so thye have to be washed even tho you only had them on for what an hour or something. Jean killer

Cheers, Leo is trying to make me feel bad for smoking.
Leckie, when I go out with the lads I've told myself I can take a few cigs out with me, as long as I don't smoke at work or during the week other than Friday nights. So that's good.

just my opinions, i smoked for 6 years and quit strait and havent smoked since. was hard yes but at the end of the day if you think about it, how pathetic must a person be to not be able to stop their hand putting a cig in their mouth and smoking it? thats how i looked at it and have not smoked since. but like i said thats just my opinion.
Oh and shrinx, what fire did i piss on? you quit 2 days ago and have smoked twice minimum? the only fire im pissing on is the one on the end of your faggy!
Tad harsh but wake up calls/reality can help most people in these situations

I'll green rep you now for putting across your point but in regards to you saying loosing someone over smoking. My mother smoked 40 - 60 a day and has only recently given up. As a result, (well, partly) she has emphysema, a disease whereby your lung air capacity drops, she has 40% in one lung and 50% in the other. So I do have an insight in that direction.

I mean well in what i say, i am just real about it. its how i have been brought up , most of the things ive been told etc it YEARS after when i finaly realise, yep he was right. etc. I just belive its best not to pamper somebody up "well done! 2 days" etc... (no offence to anyone here) - but to just be bit harsh and real. Anyway i will leave it on that note, quitting smoking was by far the best thing i ever did

When i saw my nan in the marie curie centre & how helpless she had become + all the horrible ways its had affected her.
The fact that it was litterally eating her from the inside out & there was nothing anyone could do about it but watch.
I remember us all standing around her bed, the 5th time the doctor had told us she wouldnt make it through the night and how we all stood watching her laying in perfect silence for 15 minutes before someone asked "Is that it?"
Before i could feel upset i was totally filled with anger that she would do that to all of us, it seems so selfish. She spent 3 months in that center & smoked untill the day she passed.
Iv never touched a cigarette since then & i have no sympathy for people who smoke. I cant think of a bigger waste of time, money, love, emotion, life.
If you get to see what it does the way iv seen what it does you will find it hard to watch someone else have a cigarette, let alone put one in your own mouth.
Just Quit and be done with it. My advice.
