It's because you are the policy mate like Sayer said.
I did the same when I was getting my VTR, but it's because you are 18 and probably don't have any other driving experience.

insurance has become alot hard to get hold of and more expensive, i found that out when i renewed in feb.
alot of companies are now refusing to insure drive under 21, or making them become the policy holder with their parents as named drivers

Hi Mate
So let me get this right. You fill out the online form with you as the named driver and it tells you to call them, yeah?
Some companies will not insure people under 21 as a named driver as someone already said, which is probably why they said to ring em. I am 19 and found 9/10 companies gave me a quote as the named driver online. Try www.moneysupermarket.com, whoch search like 20 companies all at once. Also try Tesco, Bell, Quinn Direct, Adrian Flux.
Regarding legalities with being the name driver. This is completely legal as long as you have not lied on the form. By this i mean said your dad is the owner of the car or the main user if the car is registered in your name and your dad will never drive it, because this is a lie and will void your insurance thus making it ilegal. As long as you have said you are the main user and the car is registered in your name you will be fine.
I cant stress enough, DO NOT lie on the forms when you fill them in. ANY lie or mistruth will result in being told to naff off by the company in the event of a claim. You will then be left to foot the bill, which can be pricey if you crash into an 80 grand porsche.
Hope this helps
PM me if you have any more insurance questions

insurance quotes are done on the details of the youngest driver who wants to be insured on a car....it wouldnt matter if your dad was 32 or 52 with full ncb, they just look at the fact that there is an 18yr old with 0ncb! I only found this out a week ago when i was talking to loads of insurance brokers (or whatever they are called)..also, adrian flux wont insure a second driver under 25 (crazy, i know) but they are really helpful and will put you through to a company that will find the best price for you. without filling out silly forms online. your best to get insurance by ringing the company themselves!

oh jesus please read the 3 threads about insurance you've already asked!
It will save asking the same question over and over again.
And re-evaluate what your trying to get insured.

the correct word would be arrogant.
Ignorant means:
1 a : destitute of knowledge or education <an ignorant society>; also : lacking knowledge or comprehension of the thing specified <parents ignorant of modern mathematics> b : resulting from or showing lack of knowledge or intelligence <ignorant errors>
2 : UNAWARE, UNINFORMED
- ig·no·rant·ly adverb
- ig·no·rant·ness noun
but im sure you already knew that.
Now before you start your grump reply.
Take a look at that:

That is as much detail about car insurance you'll need to realise a little 1.2 (with back seats for post movie action) is ideal for your age.
Hope that helps bud :)

your gonna be hard pushed to find someone to insure you on group 13.
Try Adrian Flux..they helped my bf a few years ago when he made his Ka group 14 and no-one would insure him..and he was 20 and had 3ncb at the time!!
Why was your insurance so high for a 1.1? i only pay £760 for a 1.4, with zero ncb (and as a learner *cough*)...i would shop around more if i were you!!

that still doesnt explain why his insurance on a 1.1 saxo should be twice as high as i pay on a 1.4 saxo!!
I would wait a few more years until you try to get insurance on such a high group car. Unless you've got plenty of money! at the end of the day, anyone can get insured on anything if they have enough money! I knew a guy who was 18 and insured on a scooby...you just have to find the right ppl who will take you on!

Yep. and you know why?
Nothing wrong with finding stuff out for yourself.
Saves making other people do it.
Hes insurance could be high if hes declared all his mods.
