Microsoft has always slipped up.
There are many reasons I don't like Windows and more reasons to why I don't like Microsoft but one of my main things has to be the virus issues that come with the OS. Hence the reason I stick with Linux at work, and most of my colleagues have the same feelings.

If microsoft would actually finish a product before releasing it then they might (i use the term extremely loosely) be a far more respected company. Maybe.

I think they should quieten down for a while, release vista & fade in to the background, concentratre on other things like the xbox & mainintaining their software. Then when the time is right make their return to the market as the underdog to apple and earn their spot at the top again.
They do do alot of fantastic stuff and i cant even fathom how the company is sturctured & kept all under control. But they have made far too many mistakes atm and its ruining their name.
Everytime i read 'Microsoft has..' i automatically think 'oh dear, what have they gone & done now'

i think it's a bit unfair to blame microsoft for the viri out there, if linux becomes the dominant OS there will be loads for that too.
If setup correctly windows can be secure, Just the typical windows user doesn't realize how viri spreads.

I'm afraid that's not true. If Linux became the dominant OS, which is it getting there (but slowly) it will be in the same shape of development as it is now.
A lot of viruses work based on user privileges, hence the reason a virus as a normal user on Linux can only affect that user and not the entire system. Even then it can usually only do little damage. This is not the same with all current Windows releases.
On top of that, being that Linux is open source the bug fix time is much quicker than that of a Windows bug. Therefore if a bug was identified which could cause problems for an end user it would be sorted much sooner than that of a bug in Windows.
I'm not saying Windows can't be secure but I am saying unnecessary steps need to be taken to get it there.
Windows is supposed to be a user friendly OS and provide everything out of the box. You yourself have just said Windows can be secure but normal users just don't know what they're doing. With most Linux distributions out of the box, you'll find pretty damn secure and ready to roll without the worry of viruses.
