how do i know if my engine mount is knackered/fooked
when i park up in my saxo (moving forwar at around 5mph ) i slam the brake on and hear a clunk from the drivers side, same happens when i then goto reverse the car and slam the brake on...
im not sure whether its a suspension fault or whether its the engine mount under the ecu, if so how would i know its knackered?
also i have read posts about snapped bolts
any helpful replies will rep
thanks

shake the engine
get someone to sit in car and put 1 foot on break and pull the cluth up to biting point and see how far it moves or if you can hear the noise

you do know that proper groupA mounts include rose jointed parts? not just the hardened rubber/metal that everyone thinks

If your engine has excessive movement its worth checking to see if the mounts are loose. Especially the one underneath because its mounted in a slot and if the bolt is loose the engine will move alnog the slot. This happened with me and I just tightened the bolt. The engine was moving so much that the altenator pulley was tearing away at a water hose. I had to replace the hose as it was nearly through.
