Hi, just recently my 98 vtr has been giving me some problems. The most annoying being when i'm driving along and decide to put my foot down, the revs increase dramatically but the speed of the car doesnt and you cant feel any power driving you forward. Its nearly like goin along in neutral and reving your engine.

I did have a blockage in my CAT but iv removed everything from inside. But i doubt this is the cause.

Cheers in advance for any help.

Clutch is slipping, when u put your foot down it slips allowing the revs to go higher without moving the car any more. Like driving with the clutch half way in all the time

Get a garage to look at it for a free quote ;)

I bought a new clutch about 3 months ago :( and fitted it on my own, cannot be bothered with that again lol. I've noticed a bit of oil outside my engine and near bottom of gearbox. Tried cleaning it up to see where its coming from and cant recognise anything noticeable.

Maybe this oil is getting on the clutch plate?

i dont think it would cover this as its not a clutch fault

yeah i agree with Paul, they won't cover you cause its not a fault with the clutch itself mate!

buddy i had a 98 S reg saxo vtr....same prob....when i was ragging it around town and up hills, the revs were going up like mad when hitting the throttle but the car was not increasing in speed..... was a knackered clutch.... most probably a fault with the pressure plate or release bearing coming out of place i.e. not giving enough clearance to bite

Sorry to dig this up guys but exactly the same is happening to my Saxo, just got the car back after getting a new drive shaft and CV joint fitted and the problem persists. The clutch on the car is brand new and the garage have confirmed the clutch is fine, but a similar thing, there is oil all round the bottom of the engine. Can oil getting in the clutch cause the slipping? As its only when i boot it, and still doesnt happen much. The car sets off fine on hills etc.
