So I'm in talks with Autopia about this.... who's in for one then?
Price depends on how many names we get. It will be cheaper than they currently sell them for.

The PC is 110V so you need a step-down transformer to take your mains from 240v down to 110v.

Correct
can u not just get the 2 plug adapter to the 3 pin?
or do u need a transformer?
You can use the 2 plug to 3 pin adapter, but then you have to plug it into the step down transformer. This is an option if you do not want to cut the plug off the american one to put a new plug on, or change the lead.
I have had a few more emails back and forth with autopia, and once we have finalised a price I will be looking to take orders and collect money (or send straight to them, depends what they want).
There is an option of either a pc kit (pads, and microfibre bonnets) or just the pc, still need a few chats to see if we can mix and match in the order.

Mike,
Ok Here is the deal.
The PC alone can not be bought with the group buy.
Only PC with pad kits.
The group buy will have to be in groups of 5 kits minimum of 5 kits (Like 5,10,15,etc. PC Kits)
It can only these two PC kits: SFX or DAS pad Kit.
Price $200.00 (DAS Kit) (approx £105)
http://www.autopia-carcare.com/son-daspol-kit.html
Or
Price $210.00 (SFX Kit) (approx £110)
http://www.autopia-carcare.com/son-sfxpol-kit.html
If we can ship all the PC kits to you(one adress) we will pick up the shipping.(The Import tax will be a very very small)
We will always try to put the fairest minimum price on customs form, you don't even need to ask and I trust you will be pleased!!
Second Option
If you want the people to order themselves (we will give you a coupon to use when placing the order for the discount that will expire in 5 days from issue)we can give 20% discount but they will have to pay the shipping.
(Shipping 3-5 day USPS Global Express Mail™ (EMS)
is around $69.30 for each PC kit sent)
SFX Kit will be around $237.00
DAS Kit will be $227.00
Tell each person once they place the order the actual shipping cost will be shown.
We will have a 5 day window to order all of the PC kits for this group buy.
Please see what the people say about this offer.
Keep in touch
Jon
This is the message from Autopia.
So what this means is that we need to chose either the DAS or SFX kit.
Autopia will ship all the PC's to me, then I will have to ship them to you. This will mean that the price will be $200 + postage costs, which I am hoping to find out the weight either off Dan or Autopia, but can't imagine it being more than 5-10 quid.
So if we decide on this soon, then we will be able to get the ball rolling quickly.
Can people please post replies of preference in here, and post if you are interested in a group buy on transformers.

Id like the ship-to you option and I will collect from you.
Let me know how this progresses.

barrett
17th March 2007, 01:08
No problem what so ever picking it up from me, and agree that the SFX kit seems the better option, I can't see much difference between the two on the site, but its only £5 difference so must be slightly better in some way. Just need to see who still needs to confirm that they want, then we can make steps to placing the order.
I will look into some sort of GB on transformers if people are interest.
Can also sort the replacement power cable too, and get a guide up for all to follow as you need to change either the plug to a transformer compatable one, or change the entire lead which seems the better option.
To change the lead you have to undo a couple of screws on the PC and then rewire it (as simple as changing a plus). The benefit of this method is that you get a longer lead therefore you do not drag the plug around on the floor, and there isn;t the risk of it knocking the paintwork on the car.

There are plenty of sites to buy the pads, and polishes, glazes, sealents and waxes. www.polishedbliss.co.uk, www.cleanandshiny.co.uk, www.cleanyourcar.co.uk.

Update from Autopia
Each person can pay for their own PC SFX kit.
I have to contact the order manager to see if they want a coupon code for this group but or if just placing a comment in the order box is what they want. They are not availible today so we will have to wait for Monday.
I will let you know as soon as I know(sometime Monday)

Hi Mike,
I have the coupon for the free shipping on the group buy for the SFX PC kit.
Please enter the following in the discount coupon box when placing the order to get the free shipping.
It will give free shipping once its been applied.
This free shipping will send the 5 PC kits plus any polishes, towels, brushes and any thing else anybody wants to add. (Free shipping for EVERYTHING)
The only thing is it has to be placed as a one person order, not seperatly like I thought.(Sorry)
Also the coupon will expire after March 26th.
Any questions please feel free to ask or go to
www.autopia-carcare.com and click on help desk for live person support.
Thanks again!
Right folks, I need to start getting peoples payments and fast, so we can place the order in time.
Payment is best made by cheque, or you will have to pay the paypal fees.
I will pm all on the list now with my address. I will be collecting money for PC and what ever else you may wish to order, then I will get a price for postage to you when I know how much it will be, and you can paypal or send me a cheque for how much that is.
So its £110 for the PC with the SFX kit.

There are different types of pads, such as cutting pads, polishing pads etc. Have a look on www.detailingworld.co.uk at the guides section and the sticky threads for more information.

If there are plenty of cups of tea I will be there. Will bring my pc along aswell will get through the cars pretty quickly!
Best thing to do over the coming days if you have the time is to clean then clay bar the car, if you haven't already.
That way when you get the pc all you need to do is give the car a wash and crack on with the polishing!

Hi chaps, I would advise getting one of these from the group buy on detailing world at the moment. You can make one yourself, but by the time you have bought the m clips, and the tool you need to grasp them I'm pretty sure you would have spent more than just getting involved in this group buy.
Its a 9m cable that you fit to the pc, this avoids having to cut the plug off the power cable and rewire, which voids the warrenty. So it runs from the pc to the transformer.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j54/nigelmercier/pcflex002.jpg
To get involved you need to add your name to this list (http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=27796) on DW, then click the thrid button down on this list (http://www.mercier.org.uk/paypal.htm)(ignore the existing pre-orders only bit).
Then you are done, all you need to do is sit back and wait for that and the PC to arrive, and get yourself a transformer.

Excellent, I think that is the best way of changing the power cable, then you dont have a short pc power cable and have to drag the plug around on the floor.
The guide looks easy to follow too.

Don't know if this answers your queston or not:
The Porter Cable 7424 car polisher features a random orbit (dual-action) polishing action for a swirl-free finish. While powerful, the 7424 will not scratch or burn even the most delicate clear coat paint finish. The 3.7 amp motor delivers plenty of torque, and the electronic variable speed control allows you to vary operating speed from 2,500 to 6,000 oscillations per minutes (OPM). For comfort, the hand grip can be attached to either side.

Any time now the big fat parcel will arrive on my door step... don't worry there will be plenty of pics to tease you, then straight down to the post office to find out cost of shipping for those that need it.
Then it will be a simple case of getting the money to me asap via paypal or any other way of your choice and its yours.
The conversion rate has worked out well and I got exactly the right amount of money from everyone, well 11p too much actually, but call that the cost of the paper for postage!

I've noticed that they haven't come with the FREE bottle of Sonus Paintwork Cleanser with the Sonus SFX Polisher Kit.
So I will send autopia an email today to find out why. But if you want to use it right away i suggest buying a different polish in the uk for now.
I would suggest maybe http://www.cleanandshiny.co.uk/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=10101 this if you have some swirls. The paintwork cleanser wouldn't shift swirls anyway. I thought you got a bottle of polish as it had it in the photograph on the autopia site, but i have not had a chance to read the page (http://autopia-carcare.com/son-sfxpol-kit.html) about it yet.
I will email John at clean and shiny and Rich at polishedbliss about doing a group buy on it. I would be looking at getting that sorted ASAP so we could all order by the end of the week.
Sorry about that folks, the paintwork cleanser is Autopias fault, but the fact there is no swirl busting polish is my fault for not reading the page properly and just scanning it.
