View Full Version : Setting up Sub

I've finally got the time to fit my sub and amp :D

The question I have is, how do I prevent the lower frequencies being played through the front speakers as well as the sub?

In my current setup, I have the front speakers connected to the HU directly, with the sub connected to a bridged 2ch amp which is running from the rear speaker pre-outs. I can use the frequency dial on the amp to filter the higher frequencies from the sub but I still get bass from the fronts...

Is my only option to run the fronts from an amp too, and use the amp filter to remove the bass?

Cheers,

i dont know but cant you just turn the bass off to the front speakers, through the hu??

no need to amp them.

what you could do is have the bass low on the headunit, and have the gain a bit higher on the amp than you would normally, but not too much ;)

That's what I was hoping to do, but haven't figured out how to. I can't find a menu option, so guessing not :(

It's a Blaupunkt Brighton HU.

Yeah...

I might just do that for now, as I'm only planning on this being temporary until I get some decent comps (stuck some Blaupunkt coaxials in for now), as the comps will be amped anyway.

If you had a good head unit your sub shouldn't run off rear speaker pre-outs... it should have seperate outputs specifically for a sub, and is therefore independently adjustable...

On my alpine headunit, my front components are connected to HU front speaker output, rear co-axils are connected to rear speaker output, and amp is connected to the HU sub outputs...

I can then adjust each one independently... and if you make your sub mono at the amp it makes it just play bass...

Yeah, thanks :)

When I can afford it, I may upgrade the HU at the same time as the fronts, therefore avoiding this problem completely :D

You can buy filters that filter out the bass frequencies... you could fit one between your headunit and your front components? then just leave your sub as it is?

Will have a quick surf of the net tomorrow and try and find you a link, but that might save you buying a new headunit :y:

the fronts may also just not be getting the power they need just being run off the headunit, so now a sub has been installed and you are able to hear/feel the lower frequncies that are being played it seems like they are getting bass when really they are just playing a mid / mid bass signal but not a clean signal.
if you have components that will filter any freqencies that are too low getting to the speakers
