Just been rear ended this morning! :_( My Girlfriends birthday as well!
Going down hill, id stopped and the guy behind didnt :( Was some huge 4x4 pickup. Not sure if it was a good thing actually because his bumper went into my boot, missing my bumper and potentially wrecking the chassis. Ive got a caved tail gate, bent colour coded bumper, but it still shuts and locks just thankfully.
Havent taken the carpet up to see if the floor is rippled, god forbid!
Are things like this usually costly? Any way I can be blamed for him hitting me? He did admit liability on the spot. Im fully comp also although I need to check my excess :/

If he admitted liability you dont need to pay an excess do you?
Doesnt sound too bad from what you have said. Just a new bootlid & a new rear bumper. How are the rear panels either side of the boot?

untouched i believe. Certainly no obvious damage. Thats the lucky part I think, being a 4x4 his bumper was at the height of my numberplate, so he missed the main impact points behind the bumper and the tailgate took the damage instead of the whole car.

Hi Lucazone
Usually, with the emphasis on usually, rear end collisions are the fault of the driver in the rear. It is usual that while liability is being discussed, you claim off your insurance, lose your no claims and then get it reinstated when the other driver's insurance pays out.
Just because the impact missed most of the structural points on the car does not mean it won't be written off. If the cost of repair (to standard, rather than as it is at present), exceeds approximately 50% of the market value, then say hello to Mr Bus!
How's the neck?

I would be amazed if the damage exceeds 50% of the market value.
Just to recap on your reply - Are you saying my no claims will be reinstated once the other party pays out for the damage? That would be good :)
I was a bit shaky from the adrenaline rush straight after, and I think i might be getting a little stiff in neck region, but it wasnt that fast an impact so im hoping to get away with it.

Correct, you report the accident to your insurers with details of the other party. Your insurance company will pay out (ie a claim on your policy). When the claim is settled fully, ie your insurers successfully claim from the other party the NCB and excess are all part of the settlement.
Good luck.

Adam did you notify your insurance of the superturismos in the end?
Bad luck mate, not like it was your fault or nothing.
Hope all goes well!

When this happened to me it ended up costing about £1500. It didn't look bad, just a cracked rear light and dented boot and cracked paint on bumper. But when took it to garage they found the whole boot floor had crumpled and back panel had bent out slightly.
Not to worry though if your insurance is sorting it out. Chris

Do NOT get your insurers involved. Theres no need.. Simply get in contact with his and get the repairs done or claim done..

Have you ever actually tried that?

No but my brother has and he went straight to the company.
You only need to inform your insurance you have had an accident.

Exactly. Since you're obliged to inform your insurer regardless it makes more sense to let them handle the claim. There's no value in dealing with it yourself, unless you're fully aware of the law, as it is a litigious minefield.

Yeah I did get the SuperT's added in the end. With my holiday to the US and Tax to sort out I had no real time to look at other insurers. So an extra £38 on the yearly cost, and no more cover :/ Renewed the insurance on the 10th March, and this happened on the 14th! hehe
Just had the approved repairer around to get some details for the quote, and they were quite suprised at the lacking damage. The boot took it all it seams. The boot floor is fine, and there is no damage to the lights or frame. Even underneath the only damage was to the bumper.
I was hit by a Mitsubishi L200 (old style). Maybe 10/15mph.
