Hi, i noticed yesterday while driving on the motorway, that the engine temparature gauge would go up to half way slowly and then drasticlly drop down about quater, it then goes slowly back up to half then quickly drops back down a quater, it would keep doing this non- stop, is this a serious problem?, any ideas of what it could be? thanks. :drink:

it would normally go to about half under normal operating conditions i would imagine, then the cool air along the motorway is bring the temp down a bit, then as you hit traffic it will rise again..

thats fine, thermostat is opening and allowing the water to pass through the rad to cool then closign again as the temp reduces

its normal mate, if your cruisng along etc.... what you dont want is the temperature soaring into red
check the thermostat and coolant temp sensor

Mine used to do that quite badly. I'd change the thermostat mate and I'd strongly recommend you get a genuine Citroen one. They are about a tenner but much better quality than the pattern ones which tend not to seal properly when they are closed and so the car takes longer to warm up.
