as we was on the topic yesterday i decided to find out

If you get stopped by the police and do a random check and discover you have no catalitic convertor. they will call vosa and order a roadside emmisions test

if you fail that test (which is likley with no cat) you will be given a £60 fixed penatly and a 14 VDRN

A VDRN (vehicle defect refer notice) where you have 14 days to get a cat on, pass a emissions test and get it stamped by a m.o.t garage and hand it in to the police station

my escort used to pass its mot and it had the cat fitted but didnt have any insides lol

the only way you may get stopped is if your pulled for the car being loud. they may look into it.

I would take the risk, i was under the impression tht if your car gets caught without a cat and it fails the emissions test thing that they impound the car and shit and you have 7 days to pay them before they crush it!

technically no its not but 9 times out of 10 you will fail the emmsions without it on thus being illegal because it prevents high emmisions ;)
