grab your knob and see if it wobbles when in neutral....if theres play in it, then its the linkages.... thing is dont force it in and outta gear cos if it is the clutch, you will damage the gearbox

help!!!!!!!!!!!!!
got a saxo vtr and my gearbox or clutch is playing up badly.
sometimes the gears select ok.
another time i could be driving along and go to change down the gears but once ive took it out of gear into neutral will not go in any gear even with clutch pedal fully pressed down. when that happens i have to stop engine and put car into gear which it does perfect and then start the car, changes up the gears ok i suppose bit difficult then once in neutral again it wont select any gears.
ive been told clutch is causing this but could it be the gear box?????
some-one please help me!!!!!!!!!
