:panic: Hi the other week i posted a thread about a pinging noise, well its still there. I looked on the FAQ page and had a look at the bolt that is shown on there,it was'nt that, its also been to a garage and been checked over and they could'nt find any thing wrong with it so its nothing serious.but its driving me MAD now,and its getting worse, its on every dip in the road, speed humps, corners. Its there if im going slow or fast, and it sounds like ive got 2 wine bottles in my boot clinking together.

maybe something is catching when you are going over bumps etc.

would'nt the garage of seen something though if there was something catching. You can hear it on the outside of the car more than on the inside.

has your car been lowered at the back?

natalie1

hmmm, strange,

but i had the same kind of sound too, but turned out it was my rear ARB end plates, the bolts had come a little loose. tightened them up and no sound.

maybe its the same but the garage overlooked?

what are the rear ARB end plates?

the Anti Roll Bar plates are the tear dropped shaped plates of metal that the normally offending bolt is attached to.

The anti roll bar can sometimes work a little loose, remove the plastic plug on the passengers side and im sure its an M* bolt you wind in to pull the anti roll bar in tight, replace the two securing M8 bolts on the plates as well

ive took the car to the garage today, and there saying that its the rear axle, could the rear axle make a pinging sound?

Scott
21st March 2007, 22:31
well thats a shit way out for them as it will be the axle thats making the noise, try what i have said above before letting them do anything.

Its unlikely fucked bearing will be causing the pinging

im going to try that later today, hopefully it is that and not the back axle because there saying that a brand new 1 would be £800!!!

800 thats a joke!!! i got mine for 240 from a scrapyard in perfect conditon!

ive been told £100 for a second hand part, but it wont have any warranty! im not convinced it is the rear axle though.

Just been to the garage today to get mine tightened up and they told me it wasn't lose and that it will be my axel! I could clearly see where the underside of the nut is scratching the end plate!

I'll have to find another garage as I have no tools or jack!

natalie1
23rd March 2007, 15:51
oh no,it just goes to show that garages do rip people off does'nt it?

The guys at the garage also told me the car was lowered 2 clicks about 60mm and the guys who lowered it for me said they'd done it 1 click to see me down the 35mm I desired!!!!
