How are u making this rwd? mounting engine where? wat rear alex if mounting engine in front? Whats the spec of the turbo engine
oadamo
25th March 2007, 15:46
iam gonna mount the engine in the front with a prop to the back to a kitcar type irs. that iam gonna make myself so it sould be a good fit.and easy
ive got a rs turbo engine dynod at 218bhp and that was with a duff wastegate so it might be capable of more but iam gonna run it on low b
oost so it lasts. and plus it will be cheap when it gos wrong and you can get the parts from anywhere ;)
iam logging it all down so when its done ill upload it with drawing and sizes and info on wot to do all you will need is a welder grider and basic tools and the cost of the steel and engine

Nice one. Keep us posted will be interesting to see how you do this compared to my own approach in my 309.
Not sure I'm completely convinced about the engine choice lol but I'm a big fan of the compact and light Duratec engine... 220bhp with standard internals and TBs. You can get gearboxes so you can mount them longitudinally also.
Nearly went for that myself.
Pleased you went for RWD though. So many go straight for 4wd and miss all the fun:y:

the engine choice was a pain in the arse. i was gonna fit a bike engine or a v6 (i did buy a v6) but then i tough about how much room there was. so i was looking for a turbo engine that was cheap and could be mounted rwd .if the diff gos there only £20 from the scrapyard so i could keep a couple spare then if somthing gos wrong id have it back on the road in no time.and on the plus side a yb will fit when i get bored with the rs engine.

the yb is a seriously heavyweight engine though.. I ran a mile when I got one on the scales.. over 140kgs.
Proven to get big reliable power though so depends how the car is going to be driven as to whether its a good idea or not.

i havent got a clue what i am going to do with the interior.ill see what it looks like when its finished. i was thinking because ill need a custom carpet just buy some speaker box cover and spray glue it to the floor. lol i no its a naff idea but it will be cheap. until i can get one made or something i havent really tought about it yet. i used to work making custom speaker boxes so i sould be able to make a good job of it. or cut the carpet to the tunnel and then just trim the tunnel. anyone got any ideas?

Just a quick note thought to make sure you are considering the final ride height before setting the mounts to make sure that the suspension geometry will be maintained at your desired height. This will be critical if you want it to handle.

hi heres a little update for you all. iam not gonna fit the 2.3 turbo anymore cus getting a gearox to fit it was a pain in the arse.so now iam gonna fit a 2L
zetec and gsxr 600 throttle bodies for now then my aim is to fit a cozzie.i was gonna use the rear legs off a sirera but that was a pain in the arse to find the mounting space under the car without major body work. so iam gonna fit a de dion axle that the kitcars use ive made one up at work. ive just changed jobs so i have a bit of a delay lol. anyway the rear end will be fitted this weekend and the engine is being deliv tomorrow so its all go again

You're looking at closer to 170 for a stock 2l Zetec (I build bike carb setups and Megasquirts for Fords).
I hope you're gonna put a decent set of crossmembers in for the diff as the boot floor is paper thin...
Is that a GTS DeDion tube?

its the rorty drawing off the net i made it at work. ive just mod the sizes so it fits the saxo. ive come up with a design so that a sort of frame thing welds to the floor to make it strong. and the diffs now got a frame and plate. iam not really after a lot of bhp i just want to get it all done and have some fun. then iam gonna look at getting a cossie engine and bits but it will prob take longer to get everything (time/money). the zetec was easy to get and all the parts are cheap the full 130 engine only cost me £75 and ive heard it running
adam
turbo_dave
10th May 2007, 23:00
Not disputing the Zetecs are cheap. They're the new XE IMO. Plenty of ability for not a huge amount of cash.
Don't underestimate the forces going through a suspension setup. Just make sure the welding is A1 and that everything is triangulated to solid structure and there won't be tears before bedtime :y:

Volvo 960 24v with the B6304 straight six motor has the same bolt pattern and bolts right up. I've got one in a Volvo 240 Estate as a parts hauler and tow car...

Ahhh, gotcha. I didn't think the B234 motor had the GM bolt pattern. I know the later B204 did as that was an Ecotec bottom end.
Good plan with the Zetec, but the rods are not a necessity unless you're going for real big power. I'm using stock rods in my brothers 277bhp 2.1 mk6 Escort without any ill effects. Might as well save the money and spend it on the turbo :y:

not much yet iam still making and buying parts. ive just started making the fuel tank.ill post some more pics soon. the tanks going under the car where the original one was but alot smaller.
i think its gonna start to be a power chase as ive just gave my mate the headn for some head work before i fit the new cams. but ive came across a turbo and ive just ordered a decompression plate. but i cant make my mind up what to do. just get it running on bodies or turbo it.i might just get it running and see what its like then turbo it later on. but its temping to just turbo it but then it will take a lot longer to make the manifolds and all the bits.what do you think

Its a tough one, depends how quickly you want it up and running i suppose. were a fair way into show season already, so i suppose it also depends wether or not you want to take it on the tracks.
Sticking a turbo in it now, would be a good idea though, seeing as though the cars in pieces pretty much.

i had to take a lot of weight off the car before the conversion so hopfully it wont be to much heavier so i will be able to tune the shocks to get it to go round corners.

I've just read this from start, I cant believe you've done all that work in so little time.
At least if you aim for next year you will have chance to do a proper trial and error with it and maybe a bit of styling (respray?)
Its funny that you bought a v6, a Zetec, a 1.6cvh turbo and a 2.3 before settling on the Audi engine, its all spontaneous!
Will it owe you more than £2k complete to convert it?

hi
your right about being spontaneous lol. its all been trial and error i had a rough idea how to do it. but then i had to change my ideas when i went to fit the parts. but now ive done it it will be easyer next time.
when i striped the car i sold all the bits and made about 500 pounds.
so far ive prob spent about 500 not including the other engines. but ive still got them for other projects. next time iam gonna use a bike engine it would be alot easyer.

hi all not much of an update. ive been having probs getting the gearbox and clutch sorted if i used the type9 one it was going to eat to much peddle space. so ive had to make a custom bellhousing to mate to the engine.a new clutch plates on its way then the engine will be fitted for the last time lol at last. ill update the pics soon.

dont get me started :P ive bought a mt75 4x4 box and i did look at fitting it but the front diff would have been a pain in the arse to fit. it could be done but its already taken longer then i wanted it to. so iam gonna stick with the rwd for now.

little up date the clutch plate has come. ive got the slave cylinder so the engine can all go in now. but its pissing down at the moment. ive ordered a pair of porsche 4 pot calipers and some big discs so i should be able to stop the thing lol. ive ordered a bigger turbo so ive gotta wait till that gets here. and ive ordered a front mount intercooler so it should look mean as feck when down. oh and ive been quoted over 400 to get it all mapped when done lol.so ill have to keep phoneing around to get a better price. my camera is at work ill take some pics on monday and upload them.

Have you tried Angel Tuning for the remapping mate? They were really helpful and pretty reasonable price wise when they came and did my mates C2GT.
