I'm currently looking at an old school Rallye. Other than the lights I pretty much like the look of them and therefore I'm going to try get my hands on one. I've seen one, they're willing to accept the amount I have but the only problem is someones tried to get into the car with a crow bar causing a dent in the drivers door.
I've a few questions.
1. Firstly, do you think it's possible to get the dent out, if not, do you know if standard 106 doors will fit on the Rallye?
2. The car has done 100k mileage but I've seen some for sale in the 130k mileage range. I take it they still run well in high mileage but just wanted some input from you guys as the majority of you know alot more about cars than me.
I want the car to last me a year and a half so during that time I can save for a 106 GTi or equivalent and learn about modding cars and how they generally work.
If I get the Rallye I'll drop it, new alloys, bucket seats and possibly a light body kit (skirts, new arches, better front and back bumper).

do it, and i dont see any reason why the doors
shouldnt be the same as a standard 106

1 a body shop should be able to get the dent out, or you can just replace the door.
2 has the car got good service history
should last you over a few years aslong as you service it and keep it in good nick

oh dear.
If you're getting a rallye firstly
do not stick alloys on it. The steelys are iconic
do not put a bodykit on it
do not drop it.
As you plainly don't have a clue about this car, why it was made, what it's good at and what it's not good for I'd say run a mile and by a VTR

WoAh, Easy.
1. I can't afford a VTR nor the insurance -- the Rallye is a 1.3. Then again, I haven't checked the insurance group for them.
It's a car that I should generally be open to do what I like to it ;)

Insurence is group 9, 2 higher than a VTR. So there's another idea fucked then.

those 106 rallye 1.3s are a little nippier than the VTR too..

Ah, didn't realise about the insurance group. Screw that for a game of dominoes.
Feel free to lock and delete thread if needed.

what about a 106 xs

the driver feedback is ruined by heavy Alloys.. I'm a big fan of the lightweight steels. Look brilliant are £35 a rim and come in 6x14inch from the S2 rallye

Don't want to go above £800.00 and can't get insured on anything higher than a 1.4 for the next few months anyway.
Now that the Rallye is out of the question I'm stuck again ;)

You need to check insurence groups. You can't be restricted by engine size, its the grouping, for example a Saxo VTS is group 14, a Ford Mondeo 2.0 is group 8.

DO NOT ruin a rallye.
If you get it, drop it on the standard steelies and PLEASE dont bodykit it.
If your looking to bodykit a car at least get a Quiksilver or Furio, something a little less rare than a rallye. ;)

I've £800 for a car, no chance I'll get either of those ;)

Thought they were 6" on the S1 and 6.5 on the S2, matters not anyway. The 106 rallye is all about feedback and poise. Slamming it on the floor is the best way to ruin the only thing the car is truely great at.
My first experience on track was in a standard S1 rallye, owned my Mankee of Ral Reg fame. Only got 5 laps in it before Mankee blew the clutch but it was so much fun. Not fast but you could just throw it into a corner and adjust it on the limit without having to worry about anything. So much feedback, gave so loads of confidence

Grouping and Engine sizes do play a part but from past experience with insurances its your age, area and type of motor your going for, for expample i can insure a calibra 4x4 turbo on an N reg fully comp for 700 notes, I can insure a VTS on an X reg fully comp for 1400 sheets..... david is right, If i was you i would search the net for types and specs of cars and run them through confused.com for half hour, you maybe able to go for something bigger as david says but just not as new or high risk (like a saxo)

Get a crap old saxo or 106 then, not a rallye.
Ruining a rallye is not cool and wont get you ANY respect in the modding world.

My pal bought his on a T with 80k on clock, David it keeps bogging out at junctions though mate, as though the tick over isn't high enough, I've changed the plugs and leads for him, still happening, changed the fuel filter after running some red-ex through and still the same...any ideas?

Is the injector light on?
If so
Fuel Injector Light 1
It may not be the injector at fault.
Temperature Switch
The temperature switch on the injector may be faulty.
Fuel Injector Light 2
Plus Misfire
Dirty Injector
Add Forte Gas System Conditioner and 1/4 fill the tank with Esso Super Unleaded. Drive hard as possible for a short distance and it should start to improve.
Fuel Injector Light 3
Plus loss of power
Injector
The likelihood is that one or more of the injectors had seen its last mile. The best advice we can give on this is to change them all at the same time otherwise you will get irregular running. (Unless it the 1.4 as that is single injector!!)

If you only have a budget of £800 mate, i would rather ride a bike around than buy an old fiat. Whats wrong with buying a clean base saxo or 106, cheap to run and fix, then when funds allow mod it bit by bit. If you stay out of trouble you will also build up your no claims.;)

I'm thinking of saving up a bit and getting myself a 106 Quiksilver.

Good 106 Q'Silvers go for a far bit, unless you get a tatty one;)
