View Full Version : How much do you think you can live off..

Clouds_mate
29th March 2007, 08:20
Weekly? I mean after taking away your bills etc.

Travel to work, Eating at work, drinks on a weekend etc?

I want to set myself a really low budget so i can save some money. Granted people have to spend different amounts but roughly what a week do you think you could spend?

lottaroo
29th March 2007, 08:24
30 quid petrol,
Bring food from home
50 quid for night out at the weekend.

Sorted....

29th March 2007, 08:24
travel to work i could leave car and £2 a day bus-£10
Take food with me- £free
Just go to cheap pub til 1am, no clubs- £20
Petrol- £30

Thats if i was being REALLY strict.

brianS
29th March 2007, 08:25
at an absolute minimum id say £30 for a weeks expenditure. in fact for the past month ive only been spending that a week.

Ste
29th March 2007, 08:25
Id say a week i could live off £100 - any less and i think id be struggling.

Including my monthly bills it would be about £150 a week

Clouds_mate
29th March 2007, 08:27

Petrol £20
Food at work £10-20
Bits and Bats £10
Then if i go out anything from £50-100

But i want to get it down to something like..

Petrol £15
Dinner £10-
Then just try and budget a night out.

Just wana try and save some money over the next couple of months.

cut out the food at work (£5 in the local supermarket will do a weeks worth of food for lunch)
no bits and bats (or bobs)
night out £30 (have a bottle of wine before you go out if you must)

Clouds_mate
29th March 2007, 08:37
Going to try it from tomorrow (payday)

Going to take 250 out of the bank and give the card to my mother. Make that last me a whole month lol. Pretty addited to spending and buy loads of shit for the odd 25 but all seems to add up every month so going to pilot run this

29th March 2007, 09:20
My max budget would be if need be

£20 a week petrol
£20 food for a week
£5 to go out on a friday, drive and let me mates pay me to take them home. make a bit of extra cash!

LittleDude101
29th March 2007, 09:24
My usual is;

20 a week petrol (normally have some left)
10 max for grub, I take stuff in... much cheaper
anything from £20-80 on a night out... Ive only been going clubbing once, sometimes twice a month as it saves a lot of money!

Ruddy
29th March 2007, 09:29
Jeasus ive done this before, after everything paid for and only spare cash ive managed £25 a week (inc sat, sun). I cried.

LittleDude101
29th March 2007, 09:37
I tend to look after my money a lot more anyway, I always remember the days I done like 2 4hour shifts a week at pizza hut and was bringing home like £40 a week

srcnix
29th March 2007, 09:38
Well when I'm driving I set aside:

£30.00 petrol
£30.00 (Friday nights at Q or Saturday night at the Adge)
£10.00 - 20.00 for cigs
£20.00 (The special stuff)
£5.00 (Baccy and skins for the special stuff)
£10.00 - 20.00 for food etc during the week.

its a good idea. in the scheme of things you can 'survive' on relitively little a month but thats never how it happens. I should really start budgeting as when i look at what i get paid a month, and then see what it gives me a week i dont know how it goes but it just does.

when the car arrives im going to seriously budget, even though i will be getting more money in wages to allow for the car. recently i have been going out thursday/friday and saturday spending at least 40 a night, and 70 on a saturday. I wil aim to go out once a week on the lash..and ive changed my phone tariff which should save me about 80 a month. i also find i spend alot of my money getting tenners out, just for lunch or whatever then i find the change just disapears as i spend it on nout as i hate carrying change.

Clouds_mate
29th March 2007, 10:04
like me rob, tenners here and there. DVD on card blah blah all adds up.

Yates
29th March 2007, 10:24
i can go monday to friday without spending a thing, all depends if i do anything on the sat, if i dont go out on the night, i may spend a tenner that week, if i go out, may spend around 25

since getting my flat with my misses we have both had to cut down on our spending, I use to spend prob around £250 per week when I lived with my parents and thats after bills and paying my parents some rent, now with a mortgage I spend around £140 per week which covers:

£40 petrol
£10 rolling baccy
£20 food shopping
and the other £70 usually on going down the pub or buying things for the house

mrolinc
29th March 2007, 11:51
guess since im a student living at home I could go for under 100 quid a month easy :D

it amazing how much you spend on crap, ie i always just pick change up for dinner at work 5 days a week so iftheres £3 in me car or in the house thats me dinner so £2-3 your talkin about £50 a month i used to always get a take away in the week with me mate so theres about 35£ a month gone wasted

i always spend so much with my misses as she lives no where near me at the mo, so if shes at mine ill spend about 50-70£ and when i go to heres i spend about 90 but i do try to be good with me money and that at the moment

Tupps

£20 Petrol
£10 work food
£12.99 for a crate of fosters

nights out can be easily sorted. bottle of wine, £10. that'll get you tipsy no doubt.

foods also easily solved, make it at home. Saves an absolute fortune, and its better for you compared to the shit going at most works. in my experience thats burger vans etc.

also get some of ya shit on ebay u dont use ;) theres a bit of money into the cash isa lol.

srcnix
29th March 2007, 15:01
If I gave up smoking I could easily save £100.00/month. If I gave up the other stuff (which isn't likely to happen just yet) I could save an additional £100.00/month. So smoking costs me about £1200.00/year as does the other stuff so if I gave up both I'd easily save £2400.00/year. If you think about it logically that's a shed load of dosh.

It depends greatly on what you have to pay out and your earning potential. They're willing to give more if you have a better chance of getting a job, not loosing one ;)

saxodan

£110-120

Go out twice a week, £30

If I go clubbing its on student night! Saves dosh

£20-30 food, £30-35 petrol £60 night outs

That's a lot of dosh to be saving. You earn quite a bit then? Do you have a lot of out goings? Loans or anything?

I pay 300-330 a month worth of bills each month. But currently 500 sheets in my overdraft after going mental on holiday last week and buying new funiture for my room as that was done out last week too. Overdraft will be cleared tomorrow tho.

But if i pay 300 a month bills save 400-500 i will have about 300 a month to spend if you get me.

ChrisJ
29th March 2007, 15:24
I get paid 850 a month, 175 on car ins., 120 to parents, leaves me with about 500, i usually put 300 a month in my savings, leaving me with 200, which is more than enough, as i'm not a big spender. And i usually only go out once a week and spend about £30. If there is something i really want to buy, i will just take a bit of dosh out of my savings.

Clouds_mate
29th March 2007, 15:27
i think its the first payment that needs to be made like. Before xmas i saved 400 over 1 month and added money all the time but over xmas i spent all that and my full wage on going out and getting people stuff.

I think once i get into it willl be fine. i hope lol

You get paid roughly the same amount as me. I pay around £620 on bills of which £100 of that is for petrol and have about £460.00/month to do what I want with after bills and petrol. I do have a loan out though which is a pain in the arse. Glad I've got my OD paid off though.

leckie - have a direct debit from one account to the other, say 250 each month, out it into savings account, you dont get a card for that, you have to go into the bank with your book to withdraw, i know i save money that way cos even if i need money i cant be fooked to go into town and to the bank to with draw

Actually, screw it, I can post it here.

-£200.00 Rent
-£85.00 Insurance
-£100.00 Petrol
-£40.00 ish Phone bill
-£191.00 Loan

If I take away petrol it would be £520.00

Hope that helps...

The main thing to consider is going out and buying 'bits' of crap. Luckily i live with my GF and we both make a good wage so money isn't really much of a problem unless there are loads of birthday or Xmas etc.
But when i look at food at work and going to pub/club thats where the real saving are. £50 is easily pissed away for one night of the weekend and the odd dvd or game here and there can really destroy your balance.
If you set a budget for drinking, say no more than £30 every other week and buy fewer of the little things, the savings would be huge. Of course there is quality of life to always consider so it's a fine balancing act at the best of times.

I 'lost' my bank card after shopping on the way home from work on Tuesday. (really tired, long story :P )

So, Ive been trying to live off the £20 that was in my wallet :P So far doing pretty well, but thats been helped by not having lunch breaks.

Its surprising how much you can spend on work lunches :err:

One thing I think is a bit pricey, but has become a habbit is a Latte from the local coffee shop. USed to have a Grande Latte, but trimmed that down to regular.. but then decided a Latte wasn't strong enough, so now having regular Latte with an extra expresso shot each day (when I walk into town.. usually 5 days per week if im not booked up).

So, on bloody coffee alone, just at lunch times Im spending almost £50 per month :fcuk:

what a question!

I now live off about 30 a week.

20 on petrol and a tenner on anything else.

I work saturday night in a pub, earn 25 quid and get all free drinks. I also don't eat out a lot and only tend to buy a few cds a month now. Having a house really has pulled the strings in but if you put your mind to it and stick past the first month it generally comes good!!!

saving is hard, but it does pay off in the end.

Budget is going so so. Spent a bit yesterday on the car but i needed stuff anyway so the cash had to be spent.
