Bougt myself one as a run about as i'm doing some silly miles at work lately, its an S Reg, 161000 miles (well worn), A lovely army green (matt finish) colour, black skirts and 14" wheel trims, oh yes...she's a beast, return good MPG and a comfy car TBH, no rust and other wise a very clean car inside and out....
here's the million dollar question, how do i make the fookin thing fast?
i'm not bothered if it consierabley reduces its life span, only paid 900 nicker for it, waiting for a used car to come into 5k range, new astra coupe, so will be 12 months or so until they'll be that cheap at auctions, in the meantime what can i do to my little run about to make her nippy?

best thing to make your car feel nippier. :P

Think you mean Z20LET.... the Astra G Turbo'd engine (same as the one in my coupe turbo)
Ryan - I can feel a sleeper coming on.....2.216v SRI engine knocking around anywhere?
The 2.2 is not that fast... you'd want the 2.0l Turbo.
But I warn you the petrol bills won't be that small... especially as you bought it because you are doing silly miles.
Chris :)

De-restrict the air box... take the top of the airbox off and take the two inner pipes out... it will take some yanking and may require a bit of cutting, but it will sound and run a little better.
Also invest in a Vectra C intake pipe.... these have a slightly larger opening than the Astra G ones, so you get more cold air in to the enigine.
Chris :)

I agree mate, i posted a thread on here a couple of weeks ago for suggestions on 5k cars, I test drove the 2.216v bertone, I found them a little boaty on bends and when giving them some stick they just have no poke bottom end, however haven't driven the turbo so cant comment....
I am waiting until 55 plates come down in price a little more, if im being honest i love the astra coupe looks but was totally let down with the test drive
Ryan21

Chris- Do you have the purple colour bertone?

Well all you'd have to do is toughen the suspension up or change it for sportier suspension..... my Coupe doesn't feel boaty... but then the car I had before was bigger so it probably doesn't feel boaty compared to that, but compared to a Saxo it probably will... but then it's twice the size of it, so I'm guessing it's pretty obvious that it wouldn't be as good on corners etc.

Yeh it just seemed really bouncy, I went in corners at pace and when straightening up to exit i just felt as though the arse end lifted and rocked between either side a little, tried on a few bends but it was a completely standard motor...as you say mate some suspension would sort that out, however i do adore the look of them, the purple turbo version with rear spolier etc look mint

They have been tuned by 888 and have a different suspension setup including strutbrace and a few other refinments here and there.... they are a little bit faster than the normal Coupe Turbo, but not much.

There a good motor, and really good looking, even young drivers are buying them, the 1.816v bertone is only group 9, cheap as chips and a good looking solid car, i would put them against a sax for safety!

If I'm not mistaken, I think you can screw the diesel pump and turbo, it can be done to the Cav 1.7TD so I would think you could do it to that. No idea how, but I'm sure someone will. Although doing so, really shortens the cars life, but does go like stink, literally. :y:

I've been told mine has the isuzu engine in it.....screwing, turbo's and diesel pumps sound unhealthy

so whats the quickest astra going? and what handles the best ?
for example
one of those 888 coupes
vs
gsi turbo
discuss.....
Chris
29th March 2007, 15:16
The quickest one going at the mo would be the Astra H (Mk5) VXR, but previous to that it would be the Mk4 GSI.... the Coupe Turbo is a bigger car, therefore it's slightly slower!
There is a guy on the Astra-Sport forum that has put a Monaro engine in his kitted coupe and is putting a gearbox from some yank car I think, plus the twin exhaust from a Porsche 911 turbo I think it is.... so he is more or less completely rebuilding/welding the car.
Gonna be an absolute beast once it's done
Chris :)

He lives not far from you either... he's from Faversham. He's an oldish bloke, but he use to be a fabricator and also knows quite a few people that work for Vauxhall.
