Just wondered if anyone could clarify for me what I need exactly to get wireless set up at my home.

Basically at the moment the internet is supplied via ntl through a set-top-box. Which a wire then travels upstairs into my study and plugs into an adapter which then plugs into a USB port.

I then have a RJ45 cable running from my computer to the study so I can also have internet connection.

If i wanted to add the addition of a wireless network, would I need to purchase a router like below?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NETGEAR-WGT624-WG111-WIRELESS-ROUTER-USB-ADAPTOR-KIT_W0QQitemZ120103068181QQcategoryZ44997QQrdZ1QQc mdZViewItem

So therefore if im right, i plug the cable from my set-top-box straight into this wireless router, then plug my rj45 cable into the router.

Then the laptop can also connect via the usb adapter?

Just wanted to double check before I went a bought anything, cause im new to this whole wireless stuff.

Cheers

Hey

You nearly got it :P

The router your looking at is an ethernet one, which means all the ports on it which will go to your computers will be connected via rj45.

So I am guessing the cable running from the set top box isn't an rj45 cable because it plugs in though usb, this will need to change because you can't plug usb cables in to the router.

You are right in saying the router plugs in to the set top box but you will need atleast one computer pluged in to the network via a rj45 cable in order to set the router up.

The usb stick that comes with the router on the link is a wireless card so yes you will be able to plug it in to your laptop and get internet.

Hope that helps but i might of got confused on your set up, i just got up and thought i'd look at sax-p lol

Cheers for the reponse, morning posts :p

Here's a pic of what i mean with the cable that connects the internet, I think its an rj45 cable which is then converted so it connects to USB.

So RJ45 from set-top-box connects to Router
RJ45 cable goes from study computer to Router
RJ45 cable from my computer to Router
Then plug the wireless adapter into laptop

Think that seems correct.
