Help on buying a VTR

Hey guys! Hope you can help me out here! I'm currently in a 1.4i Saxo, and want to buy myself a VTR on about an R plate. I was just wondering if you guys could give me some advice on what to look for and what to avoid?

if the clutch changes noise big style when you de press it, it's the thrust baring and that's expensive. Obviously check the oil and stuff. Any mods see reciepts if they have them. Listen for knockin on the steering if you turn it sharply. Check under the arches, under body kit for any rust and underside of doors, but i don't spect there will be any.

any wineing when idling could mean a problem too.
