what billies do you have on the front

WestyVTR
8th April 2007, 09:39
hay bullit front billies are rock solid proper 1s. . . no messing about! lol they are inserts though no struts. bout £90 each they were i forget the model they are top of the range. hope that helps irs just a cost issue 2b honest i want harnesses and b and m so ideally looking to save a little on dampers i know the rear is ment to be softer that front but want it set up right. think i heard that koni and similar 2billies so are they perfect for me??

if there the grp n ones (gmc) you really want the same for the rear as there shortened units. otherwise you can run konis with sports.
try find exactly what youve got. also where did you get them form

They are not the shortend AX units from GMC. I got them from Demon tweek- closed today so i cant ask, i think they may be the sports. They have progressive damping iirc ie if its bumpy they get harder! does that make sence!?

Koni are ok to have on the rear then, agreed?

im pretty sure. your best to ask alex on ssc to confirm. what springs you going for

WestyVTR
8th April 2007, 22:32
i have -40gmax springs had them on the car for a while now ill change then in the next year or so though. cheers for the advise.

bullit
10th April 2007, 18:40
you and your gmax springs, lol, just put the seats on hold and sort the sus out

WestyVTR
10th April 2007, 22:10
lol. the billies r the sports i have the konis coming 2moro and harnesses 2follow within 14days - luke 3 point in silver. gmax springs have been on the car for bout 3yrs so ill replace them sumtime this year with either gmc 1s or 180lb ones. whichever.

the suspension is sorted now with new dampers all round, new rear beam, new lowers arms, new drop links, i have also re greased the top mounts a few weeks ago with new wheel bearings 2. the only thing left is the springs lol i even have new rubber conti sports all round.

180lb would be to much. matts on the limit with his, otherwise about time, lol

WestyVTR
11th April 2007, 21:32
y is 180lb springs to much?! how does he struggle with his wots the issue there?

i have set the koni's on medium setting as i have no spare wheel or back seats so if i set them on "fcuking hard" itll skip everywhere. lol

If you bought the sprintline front dampers for the saxo they are actually the same part number as the AX Group N spec dampers.
The peugeot 106 Gti uses cheaper ones but they are still shortened.
The dampers on the rear of the 106 and saxo sprintline kits are the same.

matt doesnt stuggle. hes at the limit (the most stiff springs) before having to uprate the torsion bar. you got to have a balance, if you go too hard it will unsettle the balance of the car

Yates
12th April 2007, 19:54
mine are 170lbs

are you on bout me bullit?

westy get custom springs, 110 for them

get the full billie set up from gmc

dont be a tight git

my suspension rocks, my car doesnt right now.

WestyVTR
12th April 2007, 22:36
matt im far from a tight git! lol ive had alot of work done rear beam 2lower arms, stearin rack, track rod ends, cam belt and tensioner 2, front billie sports, rear koni sports, rear disks and pads, coni sport tyres, mot, and tax!! nor to mention the luke 3 point harneses to follow and b and m next month. . . the gmc set up is pricey and rear konis are just about as good as billies but that lil bit cheaper. so i will shop around for springs once i have sum cash i will also get bushes, 180lbs springs are spot on imo more of an involving drive. . lol i am trying to save for a gti engine also. . . .

any way all is on the car and i have it back now, much better its even more comfortable to drive imo. . . . love it!

WestyVTR

the only place you will need...

http://www.dfaulknersprings.co.uk/

you best of going on to ssc and asking them all bout the springs as well, quite a few have them on there, and they know what they are talking about, which cant be said for half the people who give advise on this site

i got powerflex bushes from ebay, included anti roll bar mount and that, cost me 85 all in for front and back, well worth it

you uprating front brakes?

bullit
13th April 2007, 13:15
they will be too hard westy. if your running billie sports, HnR springs would be more suited

CampDavid
13th April 2007, 13:37
Billi sports are perfectly matched to 180lb springs. Konis at the rear are fine, set them to bastid hard. Won't make much odds unless you are getting some proper torsion bars too

bullit
13th April 2007, 16:28
Billi sports are perfectly matched to 180lb springs.

im not so sure dave. yours being revalved for 200lb and all

CampDavid
13th April 2007, 16:35
My understanding is that they are matched well to 180lbs springs out the box. Mine were rebuilt for 200lb by there anal first owner

WestyVTR
13th April 2007, 17:47
So 180lbs puuurrfect them!??

bullit
13th April 2007, 17:50
im sticking with my answer, lol ill find out a definate answer from faglex

WestyVTR
13th April 2007, 19:44
Im 99.9% sure 180lb springs are not stupidly hard core! Hmm maybe 220lbs is better then LOL

bullit
13th April 2007, 20:20
also you have to look into how much off a drop they will give you

WestyVTR
13th April 2007, 21:38
ok hold up! so u cant have 180lb springs at -40mm? you can get custom springs but not customised then? is that wot were saying!?

does the lbs effect the height? i didnt think this was the case!?

answers pls. . . . lol

Yates
14th April 2007, 08:24
Davids suspension is dropped around 15mm im sure he told me, he has 200lbs springs

mines around 30mm and its on 170lbs springs

i personally think that mine is ideal height, you still get all the fags saying 'lower it' but then they dont know what they are talking about, its not as high as a standard saxo, but its not 40mm, but if your wanting great handling go for same springs i have.

if your going for good suspension forget the 40mm and get 20-30mm, its seriously so much better

AlexR
14th April 2007, 08:32
davids isn't 15mm, in fact i doubt it is lower than standard. i had 200lb/260mm so 15mm shorter spring and mine was barely any lower than standard.

Yates
14th April 2007, 08:39
well i was going to say around standard, but ive never seen it in person, he was saying to me around 10mm if that iirc, no idea why i was thinking 15mm, will all saxo custom springs be 260mm? cant remember what length mine were, i was thinking 250mm but not sure.

AlexR
14th April 2007, 09:53
dunno who specced yours, guess it was dave who only specs on mine and stus original info though.

yours should be 250mm, i know i specced the first 250mm springs which were 180lb for matt(sworks), then the same again for mankee, after i discovered my 260mm springs had plenty left on them, i am going for 240mm next, probably 200lb still, maybe 180/190, depends which torsion bars i get lol

Yates
14th April 2007, 10:01
never really looked into torsion bar yet, not been on track yet and unsure when im going to get on with regards to work. Altho the next plans for it are cams :D

AlexR
14th April 2007, 10:25
cams are good, i can't even remember what my car was like cammed any more :(

Yates
14th April 2007, 10:39
well il have to enjoy it for a bit with the manifold and exhaust then go cams :D

WestyVTR
14th April 2007, 14:08
back on track then guys & gals! I want -40mm with 180lbs springs! Yes or No!??

bullit
14th April 2007, 16:34
best pm alex on here or ssc mate. i dont think so, and i still think there too stiff imo.

AlexR
14th April 2007, 16:41
possible, if dampers are short enough, or for off road use. with bilstein grpNs the shortest spring i would fit is 240mm, a 180lb 240mm spring would theoretically be 30mm lowering, at full droop the spring will be able to move but it won't be able to unseat.

if i'm honest i wouldn't want to go all the way for 180lb on standard torsion bars personally. i would go for something like 160lb 250mm or thereabouts.

Or buy gmc 40mm setup/springs, john claimed it was roughly 180lb but i reckon they are softer, i wouldn't cll them 40mm either, they are however good springs when used with grpNs

bullit
14th April 2007, 16:48
speak of the devil. 180lb would be too stiff for billie sports anyways wouldnt it? HnR better or?

AlexR
14th April 2007, 17:12
not sure, i would say that 180lb is a bit hard for sports but only ever used eibachs and H&Rs with sports.

edit: and gmc 40mm with grpNs and 200lb/260mm faulkners with grpNs.

bullit
14th April 2007, 18:18
muchos gracious

WestyVTR
14th April 2007, 19:33
Looks like ill be on the phone to John again then! He must be sick of me calling him by now! I wont buy any more shocks i will stick wiv millie sports and Koni adjustables ive just bought rear beam.... so looks like ill hjust have the springs for now then the beam can be stiffend later on... i plan to keep the car for always so no rush...

bullit
14th April 2007, 19:38
got there in the end, lol

AlexR
15th April 2007, 08:44
gmc springs are designed for use with grpNs though not sports, just get some H&Rs

WestyVTR
15th April 2007, 11:45
H&R -40mm springs then? simple

AlexR
15th April 2007, 22:24
could do, won't handle as well as the 30mm ones, apparently eibach sportlines are better, and slightly lower. i can't comment on the 40mm ones, all i know is the H&R 30mm ones are the VTS ones and 45mm ones are for VTRs and lower models

WestyVTR
15th April 2007, 22:49
h and r is -45mm then. . . thats a weird drop isnt it? ho hum ill give them a call. contact number for a h and r dealer any1?

CampDavid
16th April 2007, 07:26

Its about 15mm lower than the last standard car I parked next to my good man
