my mate has a 1.1 106 and was thinking about putting 18s on and turning it in to a show car. would he lose much speed and would it be worth doin?

He'll have no speed with 18s. I had 17s on my 1.4i and when you couple that with a heavy boot install the car is useless over 70mph. I'd imagine the 1.1 will be a fair bit slower.
Surely if he's making a show car he wont want to go fast anyway.

he was going to get it chipped just to make it go a bit quicker when it was finished. but dont know how much it will increase the bhp by

going to have to go wide arch and move the fuel filler pipe as well as massive arch mods

Chip will do very little to improve the speed on a 1.1 with 18s. Only real way of increasing speed is a bigger engine, or smaller wheels.

You are joking right? Why would you be concerned about speed in a 1.1?

chip on a 1.1 is going to do absolutely nothing in fact on a 1.1 unless hes prepared to spend thousand to get to only vtr power then its going to be show with no go

10 inch wheels all the way.
1.1 on 10inches will do like 110 plus ;)

Im on 195/45/15's and have clocked my speedo at 110mph (dont know if its right though). I have a 02 plate 1.1. Wouldnt go no where with 18's on!

Chesh, if you want an exact figure of your top speed, you need to either get your setup checked on a dyno, or you can also get it GPS checked. I've been led to believe that speedo's are pretty inaccurate.

Thats cool,
I was just saying what my speedo says. I wouldnt mind going about seeing what my top end is just for a laugh! :p
Where can i go to get it checked on a dyno. Does it cost much?

^^ this bollocks me off. the speedo is out by a percentage. when you do 10mph are you stationary???

I wouldnt bother with the dyno man, just grab a gps unit from a chum and run the car at a constant speedo indicated 50mph. look at the gps unit to tell you what speed you're actually doing.
then do this to work out the percentage error
(50 - gps speed) x 2
but you'll find that your speedo is about 10% out (like mine)
so you actually did 99mph.

i have 18's on my VTR show car and it is now supercharged, The 18's do take alot of accelaration away as when i had the supercharger fitted to my other vtr with 15's it was alot quicker.
