bought an amp brand new off ebay a few weeks ago, from a power seller.

and all was good and well ntil a couple of days ago i got in the car and noticed no bass :n:

so when i stopped i checked it out and found that both fuses in the amp and the 12v power supply cable had blown.

So i replaced the one in cable first then the one in the amp, and when i put the one back on the amp it sparked and blew again, then it started smoking slightly, so i disconnected the power cable and left it for now.

Does anyone know what might be wrong, and can any of the electrical genius' confirm what i think, which is that the amp is fooked!

cheers

Oli :y:

what about changing the fuse in the amp first? dunno if it'll make any difference at all. i rememeber when the fuse for my horn went, i tried putting about 3 fuses in and they all blew...was random...then one went in and didnt blow :-S

lol i was waiting for that, i realised i posted it in the wrong section after i'd already posted. apologies

yeah as i said above i've checked the fuse on the power cable, it had blown and i replaced it, but as soon as i put the fuse for the amp back in the amp it sparked and blew again as soon as the fuse touched the socket it goes into! :n:

check the terminals on the amp for any stray wires touching other wires as it can make it short out

If its blowing the amp fuses its highly likely that its an internal problem

I had a shitty SPLX amp in my astra that did that on a 15amp fuse in the cable but had a 20amp fuse on the amp so i just put a 20amp on the cable and all was fine until i went around a corner too fast and watched my sub pop over the big sticky up rod where my spare wheel shouldave been....

i had this with my amp a while ago. take the fuses out of your amp and power cable. put the new fuses in your amp first then in youe power cable and that should work.
if not then try i higher amp fuses in your amp this is what i had to do. it was running 15 amp fuses but then changed these to 20amp and they have been fine ever since. also im guessing you probably have but make sure that none of the threads of wire are on another wire.

ok then take it to a repair shop seems like its an internal problem

they said i can take it back to them, and they would diagnose it but if no problem was found there would be a £25 charge for the inconvienience! :omg:

how much is the amp worth? as if it aint worth much id buy a new amp, its happened to me before was gonna cost me about 40 quid to send a legacy amp to the USA to fix and send back and i thought to myself i may aswell just buy a new one
