View Full Version : How low to go?

Having just seen Suki, that is only lowered 35mm im starting to feel it's not really necessary for me to slam my car... as i do still want a vaguely comfortable ride, and my backbox hangs down quite low - and i don't fancy ripping it off on a speedbump :P .... but im only lowering my car once, so i want to get it right!
Please bare in mind... im just lowering it on springs...not a full suspension kit..
How low shall i go? This is how she sits today:

And if anyone can recommend to me good springs... as i have seen several cars that haven't looked as low as they should with the springs they have ordered...
Thanks for your input..

Keep to around 40mm mate, as I think with the nice subtle mods you have, anything too low will look odd, and result in shite handling

Personaly 35mm-40mm, may not be hardcore enough for some but all depends what you want from you ride and from the sounds of what your after 35mm-40mm should be spot on.
I always recommend people to drive to places the go oftern and see with a ruler if certian parts of the car would clear or catch on things. Not much point having a stonking looking car if you cant get into you local cinema or shopping centre becuase of ramps and speed bumps.
I removed my centre box which I think helped alot before lowering :y:

Legend steve :y: thankyou!
I have just looked at Andy's though when it was lowered on spax springs -40mm and it doesn't look as low as yours.. they look very different...
I would like the same ride height as yours... it looks fab! and it still driveable! how come there is so much variation?
You sure i can't persuade you to lower it ;)

that top pic aint lowered 30mm.
Top pic is his std setup.
Get the eibach springs Alex, 35 or 40mm would be my recommendation. Dont quote me on this but im faily certain i was told (excuse my improper use of the terminology ;)) that eibach springs have the same damping rates to match the standard shocks. So unless you were to go really low you could run them with even less problems than the same sized SPAX etc springs.
I have 40mm SPAX on mine although i think it sits a little lower than it should compared to others with the same springs. But its a nice height to be at, a good compromise between handling, comfort & young blonde bird pulling appeal :y:

I have just spent the morning looking through progress threads.....
I love the ride height of -40mm on a vts... but having looked at furio's they don't seem to look as low on this kit... I think baz's ride height looks fab... if i did that but with vts rims i think it will look about the same height as a vts lowered 40mm... probably due to the weight of the vts lump...
So i think im going to get the eibach 45/50mm kit..

No problemos, do they do kits for the furio? Or are you having to buy a vtr/vts kit or something for it?
Or do you think the weight of the engine will make it sit a little higher?

I said 40mm only because you stated you didnt want it that low.
50mm is spot on imo though, but yes it is on the low side :)

mine is down 50mm, i had the vtr down 60mm.
i never had any problems with the car scrapping on bumps etc, it just had normal shocks on too, handled ok on the track.
the track car is going to be down 35 - 40mm on uprated shocks or coil overs this time round ;) i have some pics in my progress thread that shows the vtr down 60mm with 16s on and the vts down 50mm with 15s on.

if you put the eibach springs on, imo id put the torsion bar down 50 at the back, 45 always seems a little high with the eibach springs on !
