yup, it is a belter all the same but it's far too easy to buy a write of & it run like a bag of nails after 10k.

if the bodywork is mint then mechanically it should be to the same standard of repair... i'd hope, u can never really tell without an RAC inspection & a lenghthy poke about urself

Bearing in mind categories 'D' and 'C' are deemed uneconomical to repair. 'B' category salvage is to be broken for parts only and 'A' crushed.

Therefore, 'A' and 'B' category salvage should never be returned to the road.

'C' and 'D' are cars which might not have been involved in major accidents but which are simply uneconomical for an Insurer to repair....

Cat D ain't as bad as made out, i'd still show it caution though.

I did an HPI on my old Westcoast, luckily I was okay.

Very good idea, no matter how much they cost.

Fair point mate, but I'd never buy ANY car that has been involved in an accident.

cat d is the lightest damage! thats why i went for a cat d as apposed to goin for cat c that shows on the log book and you need vic hecking
ie only panel damage

my 106 was written off as the owner had a choice of haveing it reapird of have some money so with it been an elderly owner he took the money as they dident want another car

My car was a cat c i bought it off salvage company you always take a chance when buying a car buyign salvage has its risks but theres a massive saving to be made.

It causes all sorts of problems.

Thats shocking, the fact the guy genuinely didnt know this before selling his car.

Just hope he ammends his description now.

IIRC it depends on the specific insurer with a VIC marker on Cat D's, VIC is not set to make sure ur repair is good... its set to make sure that ur not changing the car's identity to cover it's past

if its a Cat D then a VIC can be needed if its had a marker placed by the insurer with VOSA

have u checked ur car against the database anyway mate cause most ppl don't find out til they are selling their cars when the v5 is retained by DVLA til the marker i lifted & when the ownership can't be passed on it causes chaos between buyer & seller.

Its all good repairing a write off, but it'll never feel how it should feel, theres always going to be that what if, i know i woundnt like to buy a car thats been repaired, it just wouldnt feel right imo.
