ok here goes...i know you can climb a ladder onto a roof etc blah blah but what height are you aloud to work from a ladder?apparently anything over 8 feet and you have to work from a scaffolding or be harnessed in some way?im not clued up on all these regulations tbh,i have got to the stage on the job im doing its a very high wall and iam not working off a ladder at stupid heights with a bucket of paint and a roller, surely some1 can shine sum light on this for me as the people paying me are refusing to hire scaffolding as they think it isnt required!! im talking about at least a 20metre high wall by at least 30metres wide!
i will rep some1 with a serious answer or anything very helpful iam not continuing this job until i know what do as iam not risking my life for any amount of money!!!!

anything over 1.3m means you need a safety harness mate ;)
use them all the time offshore lol

but surely a ladder hook with a bucket of paint hooked onto it and a roller in my hand isnt very safe,i dont want health and safety driving passed and pulling me off nor do i want a big fine!! i cant see what is wrong with scaffolding, would you agree?

scaffold is only needed when its nessisary (sp), but you wouldnt be able to use a harness on a ladder as if you fall, you will take the ladder with you lol
not 100% certain what the law states about scaffolding, will see if i can catch a safety rep for you and ask him ;)

i painted my mam and dads hose with mobile scaffold, takes 2 mins to build up, and is ideal as its on rollers ;) you just move it along and put the brakes on ;) wear a harness with a laynard too bud ;)
think it was £100 for the scaffold for the week, and i could reach the gabel end of the house/ point of roof, with the scaffold ;)

cheers lad! its the fact they refuse to hire scaffolding and expect me to work of a ladder its madness lol if i had a harness and like you say fell id be dead as there is nothing safe to land on but tarmac! plus there is nobody to put there foot on the ladder to stop it slipping!! im not risking my life nooooooooooooooooooooooway!!

ladder would take longer as you would have to keep moving.
scaffold means you could cover a bigger area as you can do the full length of the scaffold and a bit extra ;) lol
tell your gaffa that and it mite say him ;) lol

ladders are fine for using to climb stuff, but shit for proping against a wall to paint, as the angel they lay against the wall at reduces when you get higher. its dodgy high up trying to stretch and paint at the same time.
your safe, cover more area over a shorter time using scaffold than you do using a ladder.
tell your gaffa to sign a bit of paper saying he is allowing you to go up there on a ladder, when you have requested to use scaffold. then tell him to write that he will accept all liability as your employer if you fall or have an accident ;)
see what he says lol

have a bash, tell them you will have a go, if you feel dodgy tell them nope or tell them you can go as far as you can manage, then they will have to get scaffold in ;)
that way you are covering your arse ;)
rich peeps always try to save cash lol tight gets.
safety should always come first, thats just my opinion
