even though i'm 16, i did a quote on directline as if i was 17. i was the named driver with my mum as the main driver and it was on a west coast. it was 800 pound and i would still get no claims.

Sounds like a good price. Are you using your mums no claims?. Also is that TPFT or Fully Comp. If you are paying more than £1800 for your car i would advise fully comp.

If ur mum's the main driver & they ask ur neighbours after a crash who mainly drives the car ur goosed when the answer honestly (falsifying ur policy = points & fine, possibly ban, legal action from insurer etc)

if u wana go ahead then fair enough each to their own... but.......

direct line's named driver ncb scheme ain't worth sh!t mate tbh, ask any other insurance company about it -the other companies wont take that as valid ncb.

they research & cross reference the ncb story through the insurance database & see u weren't the main driver and scrap ur discount.

from an insider "it was to bring new business to direct line and when the renewal is due & the customer cannot find a more competetive quote it means the customer will stay with direct line & the buisness is retained"

Plus direct line are shody insurers to begin with, i used to be a policy holder myself.

fair enough, got plenty of time to think about it, im not even old enough to drive yet, thanks alot for that, in that case what would you advise doing if you were 17 and trying to insure a west coast?

try searching through the insurance section mate, alot of ppl ask this question all the time & generally get the same stuff. alot of the old skool sax-p members will have answered this 100+ times and will no longer post on it due to it being so repetitive so check it out look for advicee already posted in this section

CIS insurance do cheap insurance for younger driver but they have a min hefty excess of £400 + an extra £300 if ur in a crash and ur under 21 of £300

i generally found them to be sh!te when i wrote of my beemer at 19 on a big sticky slippery oil patch -not a helpfull bunch.

in saying that my mate swears by them!

at 17 i goit insured on a 1.0L Corsa LS for £1200 fully comp by Tesco which i brilliant on ur 1st policy with no experience or named drivers, they were awesome insurers & generally very helpful with any queries i had about the policies limitations.

alot of supermarkets are worth a buzz for a quote but tbh it's a draining process finding insurance at 17. if u keep getting quoted u can play insurers of one another two by calling to two best up and asking them to price match & beat each other -remember its a dog eat dog business but dont make up ur figures as they will call ur bluff & ask for u 2send in ur quote for them to check.

hope this helps u mate, still along way of turning 17 btw

I would agree with the above poster in saying named driver NCB isnt worth owt, its just some thing they use to keep you insuring with them.

And if you get in a job with steady income etc then definately go 100% your own policy, its worth it in the end. Once you get real NCB other insurers will drop their prices alot better than your renewal will come through i bet.
