what could this be apart from fan belt cos its been done and it sounds different to when a fan belt makes a squealing noise.

it sounds more like a possible clutch or wheel bearing problem but i dont know what they sound like

more than likely the clutch mate (release bearing)

could also be one of the pulleys if the nosie is there when you rev the car in neutral

is it a squeek or a grind noise?

is it a squeek or a grind noise?

squeak mate, seems to do it pulling away in first and then when i first go into second and then its fine

is it coming from the engine? if not could be the clutch pedal

yeah it sounds more like its coming from the engine but its hard to pinpoint exactly cos its not really loud but is noticable each time im driving in 1st and second

try starting the car and getting someone to put the clutch on and off. if it stops when the clutch is down then its your clutch bearing

have you checked the gear box oil?

if it was your wheels bearing then it would sound like more of a grinding/rubbing noise with an ever so slight squeek.

it only does it when actually moving, i think i do need to top up gearbox oil anyway so that may be something to do with it.

as for wheel bearings, it is an ever so slight squeak so could be that.

i know my tracking is well out atm from fitting some lowered shocks and springs, i need to get it in to be sorted so maybe that could have something to do with it i dont know?

i will get some gearbox oil tommorow and see if that helps at all

i would get your tracking done to start with. then jack the car up and spin each wheel. it should spin freely with no noise, if there is a grinding like noise the your wheel bearing is fooked.

i will get it orted mate, thanks for the help, now i got a few things to look at to seee what the problem is.

nice one

Are you seeing any coolant leaking? Do you need to regularly put in coolant? You may see some white encrusted stuff around the base of the engine around the crankshaft pully.

Often a waterpump squeals when it is worn. If a cam / timing belt change is needed then the water pump should also be changed to avoid disturbing them again later.

If it is your water pump, then it is driven by the cam / timing belt. The squealing can lead to water leaks from the pump's bearing.

Best to check and change your water pump if needed. As the pump is driven by the cam / timing belt you'll need to remove this and you'll need to replace your cam / timing belt whilst there as you are not advised to refit an 'old' cam / timing belt. Haynes says: "Note: Citroen state that a belt becomes 'old' after 1 hour's use." You may find that the timing marks have disappeared from your 'old' belt making refitting impossible.

You should be able to hear the squealing water pump coming from around the cam / timing belt - probably at the left-hand side of your engine. There will be a few covers over the timing belt making localising the noise down difficult.

Cheers

Oops. I spelt 'pulley' wrong, thanks.
