I was under the impression an MOT test can cost no more than £47.50!?!
Something like that anyway.

Tinted windows are not checked as part of the MOT anyway hence why mine passes every time when I have it tested at Citroen.

Not during your MOT but the police can ask for them to be removed "if they're illegal".

Just for your information (window tints and MOT's)...
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Mot/DG_10016070
Tinted windows are not included in the MOT test, but the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) have started roadside checks to make sure tinted windows follow the Road Vehicle (Construction & Use) Regulations.
Here's a good link regarding window tints (which has been posted in the Problems & Queries section)...
http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/repository/Tinted%20Windows%20Nov%202005.pdf
Excessively tinted glass is seen as a serious issue but one which
currently affects only a small number of the 24 million vehicles
tested annually. To include this item in the MOT test would require
all 18,000 garages to incur expenditure on special test equipment
and the time taken to carry out an MOT would increase. The MOT
fee would have to be raised to cover the extra time and investment.
This extra cost would affect all motorists - all for a small number of
vehicles. With the current levels of offending, roadside enforcement
is a better route as it targets the offenders while minimising the
cost and inconvenience to compliant road users.

no i dont, i would rather keep my car in tip top shape, so that when the boys in blue pull me over, there is NOTHING illeagle on my car, i also like to point out to them that im an m.o.t. tester, and i could happily inspect their car and see if it would pass an m.o.t, they havent let me yet........i wonder why that is??

yeah well still loads cheaper than everyone else round here gets them, plus most garages around here fail for tints, they had my mate remove his.
plus he is a mate and does all my work cheap anyway so pays to keep him sweet
Why are they failing for tints though if they ain't a part of the MOT, bit daft if you ask me.

Agree with Luke... how can they fail you on something that isn't tested?
I think you (and your mate) have been pwned :(
