I have fitted a new rad to my 98 vtr because the old one was shagged, but since it has been fitted my temperature gauge is constantly at 3/4's!! I dont think there is an air lock because i have bled the system correctly using all 3 bleed valves and there is constant hot air from the heater. I have also changed the thermostat. any help much appreciated as to what it could be.

did you flush the system?

i normaly place a garden hose in one side of the coolant system and blast out any shite, this has to be done when the engine is stone cold mind you.
i do it one way then the other, you can normally see whats coming out, it may be a case of shit in the system and a bit of an airlock. did you check to see if the thermostat works?

place it in a pan of water and bring it to the boil, you will see it open at the right temp as the water heats up, if you carnt see it doing anything then its shagged ;)

i was thinking that maybe its a 92 degree stat, but i will put the hose thru and clean all the shite out! Although i have bled it about 5 times so i think they will be pretty clean! whilst im there il check the stat in a pan of boiling water! Has anyone drilled a small hole in there stat so that theres a constant flow? i have a feeling this may be beneficial!

good advice there. Try to reverse flush the system also as that would clear a blockage usually.

Being a french car it could just be a faulty temperature gauge also
