So my pipe split open and i was left with no power steering! I took it to citroen garage cause i needed it done asap, when i picked it up,they said the could not guarantee the work as the car is too low! And the pipe will still rub, even though they say they bent it as much as they could! This was last week... And already it looks like the brading is fraying on the pipe! After one week! So my question is... Should i try bending the pipe more? Do you think they just couldnt be arsed to do it better?!? The car is lowered maybe 60mm max. An as i seen lots on here at 60mm and lower i would like to know why is mine still rubbing? They said i should raise the suspension, thats the last thing i want! Any help would be appreciated!

The brading on my car has frayed, but I spent an eon bending it out of the way as best as I can. Because the steering rack is hexagon shaped, it will only rub the pipe theoretically, when turning and when going over a hill so the steering pole is lifted upwards and spins with the motion of the car.

Get a screwdriver and use the steering rod to pivot the pipe upwards. You can get ready made pipes fom Demon Tweeks if you cant do it

Best thing to do is buy a modified pipe.

Thats one of my things to do in the future, rather be safe than sorry :)

When i had my car lowered 50mm.. the guy said there was plenty of clearance, he still bent it as far away as he could though.. would rather be safe that sorry... :y:

I guess some cars must rub more than others..

no need to buy anything just bend it out the way

It's rubbing on the braided bit?? Mine rubbed on the kink before the union at the rack. It rubbed through, and I picked up a mk1 pipe instead and refitted it....and then bent it slightly.

If you do bend it, make sure you get an even bend on the metal pipe, because if it creases inside the union, it'll split in no time. I.E don't pull the pipe up allowing the piece that goes into the union to pivot inside.

can you not buy modded streein arm?? a boy i used til work wi lowered his car 60 mm and it fucked the pipe up and am sure he had til buy a modded arm!

The only way it could be modded is if the arm was bent in someway, which would compromise it's strength.

It'd be a bit OTT too, all you need to do is bend the pipe. And you might not even have to do that....the g/f's Saxo is down 60mm (and the rest P.I!!) and totally clears it with no mods.

shoulda gone for the safe option 0 40mm then you d have no probs,is this possibly only a phase 2 problem??

just bend it out of the way, 5 minute job and a bit of muscle and also free :y:

No its not specific to mk2's, because the pipe I got off a mk1 was the same. To be honest, I've heard of cars lowered 40mm having the same problem, and if I'd lowered 40mm myself, I'd still bend it slightly out of harm's way just to be safe. I had one blow and it went all over the exhaust, causing smoke and a burning smell and all over the brakes, causing a lack of the ability to slow down.

standard height mk2s have been knowing to wear down too, its a design fault from citroen, really speaking they should of been recalled to the dealers imo, but with it being lowered it will wear down a lot more than standard height

you can bend it out of the way.
but give ABP motorsport a call, they used to do a pipe that replaced the old one on a mk2, so when its slammed, the pipe is well clear ;)

Thanks for all the comments and advice! Much appreciated! I may try bending the pipe some more... Is the Phase 1 pipe any different in shape/thickness? And if i was to get the modified pipe from ABS motorsport or Demon Tweeks, does it go straight on? Or will i have to get the pipe cut down to accomodate the modified part? Also,if my shock absorbers were gone/knackered would my car be sitting lower than it should be? Sorry for all the questions!!! Im very grateful for everybodies help, as i dont really have anybody local i can ask! :(
