Thinking of selling the sax soon in a few weeks to make way for one of these so just after some adive really, ive had a quote of £1100 fully comp on the 2.0 v6 mivec which i thought was good (19 2ncb).

So what are peoples opinions, are they realiable? I'd be going for the manual model.
Not really bothered about fuel tbh i'm doing about 60 miles a week on the motorway.

I know Chris off here had one so i'm after your opinion please mate.

:y:

I think they are ugly as f**k! But they do sound awesome mate!

I'd be guessing they are reliable as its Jap!

the mivec engines are amazing mate, the innotive valve system will give you decent fuel economy when you cruise and great performance when you put your foot down, great choice of car, lowered with aftermarket wheels updates the look and keeps them looking good aswell, would defo go for it mate!

well ya know i think i will be sensible this time

my mate turned up in one of these mivec things, white thing, i thought it was a ferrari at first, anyways took me out in it, yeh it sounded glorious but 100kph took forever to arrive, it stopped well though when a lorry pulled out on us

all i can say is, looks like it should chase ferraris but barley keeps up with a mondeo

Gorgeous cars, but be very very careful. My mate has a colt which is only a 1996 model and that has car has rusted so badly. He has a hole in either wishbone from rusting, rust has eaten away at his wheel arches, destroyed some of the rear suspension parts, rotten the ball joints, the trackrod ends are shagged from the rust, front downpipe on the exhaust (which is hard to find for his model) has rusted to bad that its now blowing etc etc. He is now going to spend about £500+ on welding and parts to get his car up and running again. If it wasn't for the engine being so so good (1.6 GLXI 111bhp) then I am sure he would have scrapped it.

So mate have a good look underneath the car, as well older jap cars rust like there is no 2moro

Don't be silly mate. These cars have around 200+ BHP and will hit 60mph in around 6 seconds. So that mondeo would have to be the ST version, to be able to keep up with that sort of torque/power from the mivec

^^Yer one of problems with jap imports i guess, i'll take a good look. Thanks
Would rep but i have to spread some round.

Ashsax- hoping to get about £1600 for my sax

:) No worries mate. I will post a thread up at how important it is too treat rust later on with pics of my mates colt. It is scarey how dangerous rust is on a car. Especially as I was in my mates colt the night before getting the car up on ramps and he was "stretching his legs" so to speak lol

someones been reading max power ;)

Makes the same power as a civic type r so wouldn't exactly call it slow.

lol Yer cheers Vinny

Haha, thats what I pretty much said mate. The 6a12 mivec which is in the FTO, has 200 - 220 bhp which like you said bud is pretty much the same as the Civic Type R.

The sound when the mivec kicks in is orgasmic. Better than the VTEC imo, just on sound not power

wouldnt bother mate there shite, there not that powerful and dont have much go in them tbh, theres much better cars out there :y:

What makes you say that mate? They are faster than a standard VTS and look better as well.

The only two downfalls are - Heavy engine and they are renound for rusting

Predator_R32

well obviously going to be faster than a vts in a straight line lol, vts will kill it in the corners, what im saying is theres better jap cars than the FTO imo

how much are you going to be spending on the car and insurance

Oh of course. How can we forget the honda civic Ek9 type r. Thats a 1.6 16v DOHC VTEC, with 170 or 180 (can't remember how much exactly) BHP. That is seriously rapid. Also the civic Type B spoon drag civic, can revv up to 10k and is only a SOHC but still manages to pull away from the EK9, due to the fact that the max power is higher up so on corners you can hold it in the gears for longer.

Holy cow do I ramble on sometimes.

i think u should go for a ride in one and see for yourself, my standard 205 gti wud of seen 100mph before my pals mivec would, and thats no exaggeration

even my pal said his 1.9 205 gti was quicker, the car he wrote off before buyin a fto

Tis a good job i am going in one in a few weeks at a jap show.

I know those 205 GTI's are fast, but not that fast. 105 bhp compared to 200 bhp. Now I know its not all about bhp, it is mostly to do with getting the power down and torque. But then again the mivec wins again on paper. I would still love to see a race between the FTO mivec and the 205 gti (maybe even my mates MI-16 conversion 205 ;))

oooo baby, get it right- cuz the gti is 115bhp for the 1.6 and 130bhp for the 1.9

and if u do compare these 2 cars do make sure these are standard examples, i dont know who wins on paper but thats on paper aint it, but i dont think the fto was all that

Well its 130 if you go to parkers, but from Peugeot themself they said the 205 1.9 GTI had 122 bhp and I have that in a magazine somewhere in my room.

Power to weight ratio, the 205 1.9 GTI should be able to keep up with the mivec than I first anticipated

thing is why do they need a v6 just to have 2 litres?

probly to make it sound faster than it actually is

Vinny_VSX
6th May 2007, 01:33
Most likely.

Plus that V6 is very heavy, along with the rest of the car. Good job jap cars rust, as this will save the car a lot of weight lol

They are fairly quick, but bit of an ugly car for a sports coupe imo :panic:

I totally agree with the rusting issue on these. Especially underneath. You gotta make sure the ones you look at have either been under sealed or are in good enough condition to seal without having to do any repairs to body work for existing rust.
As for performance, I been doing some research and the as with most cars the more common fto with the tiptronic gear box is more than 1.5 seconds slower to 60. Manual being 7.1 and tip 8.8. Think thats right.
If you want it to do more than 120mph you will need to get it de-restrcted and possibly have the dials changed to mph. Oh and you have to run them on the higher grade petrol, the shell optimax.
The manual gear box is great though!

good for you matey, i was going to get the v6 one too, but changed my mind to buy a celica gt4 wrc instead. jap cars are soooo reliable, feels much safer than the saxo. but i miss the wee pocket rocket.......... sometimes ;o)
